How come Bill Jacobs is allowed to talk at a city council meeting when there is no Public to be Heard session at the meeting? I say that all the people should have this type of access to our local leadership, not just the "special citizens."
The people that live around Firehouse 2 seem to think they are owed their own personal firehouse. Get over it --- the main firehouse is only a half mile away
I grow very weary of seeing the state once again adding taxes onto cigarettes. To my knowledge, alcohol is rarely taxed additionally, probably because there are more drinkers and more socializing in the Albany area.
The legislators can't light up because they've made it difficult to find a legal place to do so, but the movers and groovers think drinking totally acceptable. I am a smoker, and find drinking disgusting.
What makes the Civil Service Commission think the lateral hires won't be from Auburn?
Auburn's Civil Service Commission's got to be in bed with the unions. They should have been eliminated long ago.

I was raised in Auburn and folks here are not in the least how you depict them. Auburn had been for many lifetimes a place for family, community spirit, and a great place to raise your children. If the elderly are concerned about their safety, they have a good reason. We try not to judge others and are willing to help those in need, even drug users.
Auburn has been and can become once again the wonderful place so many remember. It's time to strengthen our police force, change laws, and clear out the criminals that come from other areas and put them where they belong.
I'll pray for your soul as I pray for the return to a safe and wonderful Auburn. "

timmy -- I'm with you 100%. Wasting billions we don't actually have has to be the largest impact on the economy and everyone is looking at all the other details as places to "repair." Drop the war and suddenly funds are available to do everything this country needs to do.
My mom just wrote from Detroit that someone smashed in her car window overnight. That first happened when we had a Datsun in the late 70s and auto workers in Detroit were going around attacking the property of anyone who owned a foreign car. When I was home in September, nothing had changed in terms of the local economy since I had left in 1982, and now my mom has had her third car window smashed in while it sat outside her house -- and this one's a Saturn -- an almost all American-made car. What happened to the 15 or 25 feet from a door way law - does anyone abide by that? "

I remember about 25 years ago when I was in the LA area I went in to pick up a pizza from a joint with a real Italian name. When I got there my pizza was still in the oven, and I got a chance to watch the chef in action while I was waiting. He was a Chinese guy, and very nice, but I'll never forget the image of him working over a new pizza with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth with the ashes just about ready to drop.
It woulda been funny, except all I could think of was how many ashes were on MY pizza.
I will say that the pizza was good though! Ashes - yummy! lol... "

I'd be more concerned about the damage to your health from a fat-laden "$5.00 pizza" than any imaginary cooties you might catch from the handler. "

Another group of freaky, super-secretive, system-abusing, child-molesting-and-marrying creeps! It's about time that the Feds have cracked down on abuses against both children and the welfare system perpetrated in the name of Religion!
Three cheers for the Feds on this one! RAH RAH RAH!!!! "

As for smoking, I have no problem with considerate smokers.
QT -- Depends on the movies. I collect in certain areas and have no interest in others. Want to give a sample of the titles you want to dump?
BTW, I'll be out of town for a conference so those who hate my long posts can have a happy break. Don't know if I'll get a chance to check in from afar or not. Departing tomorrow, not back until Wed night. Cheers all! "

I also agree with SR about the air quality problem due to other more harmful pollutants.
I think that the 2nd hand smoke issue is overblown, but is not without some merit. I just don't think it is as noxious or dangerous as it is offensive to many. There are those who can smoke 3 packs a day their entire adult life and live to a ripe old age without any apparent health consequences, and those who have severe problems. I think genetics plays an important part in all this. I'm not a scientist, so this is just my humble observation.
Anyway, I am much more concerned about other known and far more dangerous carcinogens being allowed into the environment. "

I now have a collection of at least 600-800 movies, mostly VHS, though I did finally break down and get a DVD player too.
