SYRACUSE - For the first time in its 62-year history, LeMoyne College will be run by a non-Jesuit president.
The school introduced Fred Pestello as its 13th president on Monday.

Pestello will assume the presidency on July 1, taking over for John Smarrelli Jr., who's been LeMoyne's interim president since last May. Pestello's selection followed a nine-month national search.

The 55-year-old Pestello has been provost at the University of Dayton in Ohio since 2001.

LeMoyne is one of 28 Jesuit schools in the U.S. It has 3,600 graduate and undergraduate students.
