The Willard Memorial Chapel will be starting up the 2008 Tea & Tiffany Series with Don Henry of Sullivan Studios Sunday.
The series, sponsored by the Community Preservation Committee, will feature the Chittenango native whose stained glass changed the faces of many area churches.
Henry graduated from Cornell University and opened Sullivan Studios in Chittenango in 1976.
His many installations of stained glass include Lebanon Federal Church in Lebanon, Christ the King in Liverpool, Immanuel United Methodist Church in Camillus; Tucker Missionary Church in Syracuse, Atunyote Golf Course Clubhouse in Vernon, Turning Stone Casino in Verona and Ovid Federated Church in Ovid. Restorations include private residences and several central New York churches from one window to an entire sanctuary.
Henry will be discussing the various types of stained glass materials and techniques for stained glass restoration. The discussion will feature a slideshow as well as several samples of various types of glass.
Willard Chapel is the only complete and unaltered chapel featuring the glass work of Louis C. Tiffany and the Tiffany Glass and Decoration Co. known to exist. Its interior features 14 opalescent windows, a rose window, a large figure window, nine Mooresque styled chandeliers and other architectural attractions. It was built between 1892 and 1894.
The chapel will serve tea and refreshments. The event is free, but donations are always appreciated.
