HIT: To the hiring of Brian Morgan as the new principal of Auburn High School on Tuesday. Morgan, an Auburn High School graduate, had spent the past eight years as principal at Moravia High School.
Morgan earned praise for his tenure at Moravia and said he's going to miss the relationships he created in the community.
The Auburn board of education unanimously approved the appointment, a ringing endorsement of Morgan's potential as principal.
MISS: To the collapse by the Syracuse University men's basketball team against Massachusetts on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the NIT at the Carrier Dome.
The Orange owned a 22-point lead with about 15 minutes left and looked certain to advance to the semifinals at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
But missed shots from close range, shoddy defense and lackadaisical play by the Orange gave the Minutemen new life.
It was Syracuse's season in a microcosm - youthful exuberance and potential - then inexcusable errors, leading to defeat.
Still, the future looks bright for Syracuse and if the team learns its lessons, fans will have reason for optimism.
HIT: To a tentative contract for Cayuga Community College faculty. The agreement must still be approved by the college's faculty association, the Cayuga County Legislature and the college's board of trustees.
Hopefully, everyone involved can move forward in providing CCC students with the best education possible.
HIT: To the United Way's 15th annual Miniature Golf Tournament, which was held Wednesday at the Holiday Inn.
The fundraiser is a fun way for coworkers and friends to spend some quality time together and also help local organizations and charities.
The team spirit and creativity for the corporate-sponsored holes is welcomed and shows the class of local people and businesses.
