Thanks to Auburn, friends from the Brandstetters

Thursday, March 27, 2008 11:54 AM EDT

Thank you Auburn and friends:
I would like to take a few minutes to thank the many friends, neighbors and the anonymous of Auburn and surrounding areas for your generosity and support.

All I heard was a family's single cry, mine and so many others like us, but our demise was headline news.

But what followed was a deafening cry as I heard Auburn stand up on her feet for one of her own.

We have suffered and have already paid a price for our humiliation. It is sad that the media has become a place for the faceless criticizers. My family and I still have an uphill battle, but because of the many of you that have helped us to climb this mountain, I now believe I can see some blue skies overhead. You have all been tremendous towards us.

But I'll never forget the hearts that reached ours, at our lowest place. We have met many new friends and remembered so many old dear friends. Auburn, you are ours and we are so glad that we are yours. Together we stand or we fall but at least I know that together we fall or rise one for the other.

A heart this generous can help many of her own and we will not be the first or the last but maybe we together can “catch” the next one that falls.

With a heart full of gratitude and thankfulness,

Kent and Charity Brandstetter

Auburn

" Kent I have always thought you were a stnad up guy. You have a wonderful family. With everyone that thinks you have a great idea there will be fifty more that are critics. As much as I like you and your family I would tend to agree. I understand your in a desperate position but the way it was done looks awful. I have children myself and been out of work a year and I have done everything necessry to not have bill problems. As for a faceless criticizer it seems you have more than one and many seem to be senior citizens. Don't be harsh with your words you should be thrilled that people in this town that normally look the other way were nice enough to help you out.

I wish you and your family the best. "

" Mr. Brandsteter should get a job and pay his owns taxes instead of abusing his position and soliciting donations in an unethical manner. He should resign. "

" just because they asked doesn't mean you have to give--its ones choice!
if I choose to give away 15.00 to save a home no matter the reasons behind it you have no right to tell me what to do with MY money.
I dont know these people-I dont know what really is behind closed doors, to me as long as its not drugs/murder then anyone deserves a helping hand.

" Regarding the above Brandstetter thank you note for donations they received to pay their taxes after an extensive solicitation for funds by a fellow Board member - this continues to amze me. Was that even legal? How were 1700 email addresses obtained, was it through any part of his role with BOCES? If so isn't that a misuse of his public position? I just look at this whole story and would not even consider sympathy or donating. What jumps out is a blatant misuse of position and power. I know if I'd received an email, i would have taken it to the NYS Education Department or NYS School Boards Association with my questions. Just doesn't sound right. Not the begging; nor the receiving. We're all tax payers here. There are thousands of people who could benefit greatly from a benefit being held to pay their taxes. Me included! But at the very least - it's tacky. Wow. I truly cannot believe such public support of this. Maybe I'm living in the wrong country.

" So you're listed in the phonebook under
Lover, Nature? I presume that is in the Auburn directory, no?

Should be easy to find. "

" LOL - I am not a faceless criticizer. A public announcement begets public outrage. "

" LOL - I am not a faceless criticizer. I am right here, listed in the book where I live with my taxes paid. Sorry but humiliation is what was par for the course that was taken. A public announcement begets public outrage. "
