Fueled by a spike in patient volume, Auburn Memorial Hospital posted strong monthly gains for February.
AMH reported that it had a $225,000 gain from operations during the month, compared with an $81,000 loss during the same month in 2007.

Hospital spokeswoman Beverly Miller said the facility saw a 28-percent increase over what was budgeted for inpatient volume, along with a 14 percent increase in outpatient volume. She said a big part of that increase stems from more physicians being willing to admit patients to the facility.

The strong February numbers brought the hospital's yearly operating gain to $640,000, up from $47,000 at the same point a year ago. And Miller said March figures also look to be strong.

The profits come as AMH continues to work through its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The hospital filed for bankruptcy protection in April, and officials have said they're looking to emerge from that status this summer.
