Some dogs should be banned from Auburn

To all the big dog owners, I believe that there should be some dogs banned from Auburn, because of their temperments and the apartment sizes in Auburn, plus a lot don't have big yards. So in other words, no room for these dogs to breathe. In addition to this, you have people getting some of these breeds (ie. rotties, pit bulls) and know nothing about them or how to train them, or control the animal. Which in turn makes the owner sometimes more dangerous than the dog itself.
If city hall is unable to ban these types of dogs, then I say, the owner of these dogs should be liable for some kind of insurance on the animal, so that if something did happen both sides would be covered. This is a fact most places you move into with a said breed the landlord's house insurance goes up, and why should the landlord foot this bill, if the people living there want the dog? (Just something for the landlords to think about).

Also I think city hall should find at least one more dog warden, so that they can do the house to house check for unregistered, unvaccinated dogs. People of Auburn would be surprised to see how many dogs were unregistered or unvaccinated.

" Joey, the only thing I can see from this is hundreds of posts about people's loving BIG dogs. I have had 2 Doberman in the past. I'm surprised they were not listed. My son had 3 Rotties for about 8 years, what beautiful, loving dogs.He has 1 new one now. ALL dogs were rescued! Please do not blame the breed, it's the OWNER! "

" The apartments sizes in Auburn and no yard-Joey you have never been to NYC or San Diego huh?
Fact is, Yes a homeowners insurance CAN go up depending on the company but NOT just due to breed. I have mini-dashchunds and 1 company tried to scam me for extra insurance because I had more than 2 dogs period!
Most landlords will charge extra for a pet, but I doubt they tell their insurance company they rent to animals too.
If a dog happens to bite a visitor-it would be covered by homeowners insurance if the owner was honest to have it in their policy.
If not that is why we have SMALL CLAIMS court..
If an animal is vicious, we have ANIMAL CONTROL.

" Breed specific legislation doesn't work. I've owned Rottweilers for many years and a dog's size has nothing to do with its temperment. You don't need a big yard or a big house, just take the animal for a walk. I'm wondering if the letter writer even owns a dog. "
