AUBURN - A Camillus man was sentenced in Cayuga County Court Tuesday to 2.5- to five years in prison for sexually touching a 14-year-old Weedsport girl on a bus trip between Buffalo and Syracuse during his prison's work release program.
Alexander Blanton, 26, of 22 Eagle Lane, was still in the custody of the Buffalo Correctional Facility for weapon possession, forgery and criminal mischief. When the sexual contact occurred, Blanton was traveling between Buffalo and Syracuse on a temporary work release program. Temporary release programs often allow inmates who have health issues, who go to school or are working at a job, to temporarily leave the prison for a predetermined amount of time during the day.

The bus was traveling through several counties on the New York State Thruway, but Cayuga County got jurisdiction to prosecute because the victim was a county resident, Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann said.

Blanton will serve the new sentence consecutively with the one he was already serving at the time of the incident.

Cayuga County Judge Mark Fandrich also issued an order of protection for the child and said Blanton would have to register as a sex offender.

Also in court:

• An Auburn man received a three-year sentence with a recommendation for shock camp along with two years post-release supervision for selling cocaine and marijuana to a confidential informant in 2006.

Joseph Bentley, 24, of 5 Lawton Ave., had several prior convictions for robbery and DWI dating back to 2000 in addition to the current conviction, said Budelmann.

Bentley will also have to pay $235 in restitution.

• Kyle Sessions, 21, of 37 Arterial West, Auburn, pleaded guilty to the criminal sale of a narcotic drug.

Sessions hoped to receive a 2.5-year prison sentence with one to two years post-release supervision. Bail was also reduced to $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond to meet the financial needs of his family.

Sentencing was set for May 13.

• An Auburn man received a six-month jail sentence, five years probation, and he must pay more than $500 in restitution and fees for a burglary in which he stole music equipment, CDs and other household items in June 2007. Donald Richardson, 30, of 5 Church St., had asked for a shock treatment term but Budelmann said considering Richardson's criminal record, which went back 14 years, incarceration would be more appropriate.

• A local man was sentenced to time already served and five years probation for a burglary in which he stole $415.

Michael Bartusiak, 37, of 130 Cottage St., Auburn, was sentenced to a shock probation term but will not have to go to a shock camp because he had already spent time in the Cayuga County Jail for the burglary.

Bartusiak would also have two months to pay $415 in restitution to the victim, Fandrich said.

• Mary Ann Tillman-Wilson had her probation restored after completing drug treatment.

• Fandrich adjourned the sentencing of Martin Nagel, 52, of 7041 Owasco St., Auburn, so he could gather medical records pertaining to his health complications for prison officials before being incarcerated.

Nagel will be sentenced on April 8.

" Here"s a guy in prison in Buffalo, doing a work release program in Syracuse, the article states that the inmate is in this program, if he is going to school, working or has health issues, I would just like to know if Buffalo doesn't have schools, factories or hosptials available. So the tax payers are footing the bill for this guy to ride a bus six hours a day. Unbelieveable. "
