Don't blame me for this mess Auburn is getting into --- I voted for Tim Lattimore last November.
Hey Joe, how about a fundraiser for me? I can't pay my taxes because Brandstetter voted yes on everything.
On the news they keep saying we're doing good in Iraq, that the surge is working and we are safer. News isn't asking where the oil money from Iraq has gone, why Halliburton can't account for billions, and who got the billions they gave away in Iraq?

I see karls point when people do not take responsibility for their pets. Or move and leave their 6 cats behind (which happened right next door last summer).
I just had a conversation with my sis in GA-she has 3 acre home, and more cats, dogs, chickens, and now a goat that she cannot possibly take care of! She's an animal lover and when she hears the word POUND she thinks they will all be put to sleep. People are also always dropping pets off near her home, POUND is evil in their eyes too!

I see this 15 minute ideal being abused in many ways! more neighborly wars and wasted police calls-just what Auburn can do without!
I agree an overly dog barking, hours on end can be annoying yet odds are it's neglected or something is wrong. The neglectors are the true violators.
In my neighborhood-EVERYONE has a dog, usually more than 1 (I have 3), if one dog barks they will all bark.
Also being in a out-walking-after-dinner area you will hear each dog bark as the "strangers" pass their fenced yard!
Yet as neighbors do--if one is barking non-stop we take a look, for this is NOT the norm with the dogs in our area.
That is a plus for neighbors!

If I am not mistaken brew was being facetious about cats on a chopping block.
This new dog law is creating alot of yipping when basically it boils down to #1: the poor dogs left tied out as if they were not living creatures. There was one in this 'hood but the people were so scary, u were afraid to do anything. And #2 of the law is leashes (oops did I spell that right? lmao) goes both ways the vicious dogs who attack, such as our poor Barney suffered or cute dogs running around that can get dognapped or hurt somehow. I applaud the law in its entirety except I feel it can and will be used for neighbor war. But isnt that what Auburn is getting to be? "

I bet you could make up for almost all past disagreements with Karl if you could get that vet van to take care of the cats living near his house, LOL!
Some breeds of dogs have a powerful mothering instinct. They use German shepards to mother big cat babies (lions, tigers, etc) in zoos when the mothers reject them.
We had a German shepard when I was first married who was the most loving animal that way. She'd lick the kittens so their hair stood up like little punk rockers, and she'd even very gently pick them up with her big teeth and help the mother cat put them back in their box when they were at "that age" when they could get out but Mom-cat wasn't ready for them to do so.
One of the kittens would crawl up on Duchess' back and curl up in the fur on her shoulders and sleep. They were inseparable until Duchess passed away. That was long ago (1990), and the kitty has long since come to her end as well, but we have memories and photos -- and new cats besides! "

One cat will sit on my van, One sits on the roof, the 3rd likes the trampoline, and the 4th mostly stays indoors but heads out once every 2 wks for about 3 days-he stays on the roof of the shed!
We have strong laws on outdoor cats-they must have shots and be micro-chipped or the owners are fined 500.00 the first time and 1000.00 the 2nd time!
I have seen animal control around with his meter checking if they are micro-chipped!
A block away there is a totally wooded area-with a large clan of feral cats, the clan has grown smaller due to a group that comes to the area and spays/neuters them. If they are sickly they are taken to the pound and put to sleep.
The VET mobile is fully equipped to do the surgery and place the animal back in their "homes".
This program is all VOLUNTEER ! "

I have 4 cats-rescued all of them. 2 were 4wks old and 2 were 2wks old. I think the younger you get them at the better loving they can be, if you spoil them like I do!
The last 2 kittens, I had a dog with pups, she would let them nurse, she would clean them, and they slept with her. 2 yrs later they still cuddle and play with the dog as if she was their mom!

Farmer's Gal wrote on Mar 26, 2008 8:03 AM:
Of course, cm, it's not the DOG'S fault it's barking. It's the owner's job to see to it that strangers are checked out, or that the dog is put out somewhere s/he won't be seeing strangers which worry him/her.
And you can clip that little bell off the cat's collar (I always do -- it's not natural for a cat to have a bell and it often bothers the heck out of them). Of course, I live in the country where no one gets bent out of shape if a cat follows its natural instinct and goes hunting. There are so many mice and moles and such, that mostly the cats don't go after birds much, though once in a while they'll get one -- sick or elderly, I always figure. My best hunter is a sweet tom who has post traumatic stress from abuse from a previous owner, who also had his toenails torn out (that's how they do it), which almost always causes a cat psychological problems. I don't know how he does it, but he brings home his "prizes" regularly, toenails or no toenails. He's also come a long way from the easily startled and always fearful animal he was when I first got him. Nothing wamrs my heart like seeing him feel safe and relaxed enough to roll on the rug purring with his toes in the air.
Anyone know anything about a former Senator named Mike Gravel? I guess he helped put the Pentagon Papers into the public record, and is against the war and nuclear power and for universal health insurance and "direct democracy." He's speaking in Ithaca at the Workers Center on the Commons Monday night at 7 PM. First I've heard of the guy.... "

telldastory -- thanks for letting us know about your friend who's about to ship out. Many of us who oppose the war have these folks in our minds and hearts daily and we hope and pray (depending on our religious/non-religious beliefs) they will come home safe and sound in both mind and body. Realistically, though, the chances are not that good. A larger percentage of soldiers come back with mental/emotional problems than come home healthy, not to mention those who come home physically injured, or who don't come home alive ever again. It makes us mad because we don't believe for a minute their sacrifice is for a just cause.
Credit cards: Alas, Gator, I have played that game before and know how to carefully read and interpret the fine print. I read and re-read the last couple of these offers and it was very clear (though ONLY in the fine print) that the bank was reserving the right to change the interest rate at any time for NO reason -- not because you used the card for something else, or had a late payment or anything like that, just at their own discretion.
Takes us back to the campaign of the Attorneys General of each of the states and their work to protect us from such things being undermined by a Federal Agency, the OCC, which is supposedly supposed to be protecting us, but instead is protecting predatory lenders.
Anyone else get to see Obama talking with the troops yesterday? Clinton had a session with them too, but I was in a meeting and couldn't listen. (I can put that in a browser window in the background and listen while I work, which is nice, but not while I'm in a meeting). He does handle himself well, though he also supports continued and perhaps increased troops in Afghanistan. None of the candidates are sufficiently against the whole "War on Terror" tripe for my liking. I can see we have to pull out carefully, but I still think, the more quickly we can prudently do so, the better. There is no winning a war on terror. Your best bet is to better defend your own borders and work to have better relations with the rest of the world, or if you can't, then stop trying to control their governments and let them kill each other but leave us out of it.
Maybe I am becoming even more cynical than I was before, if that is possible! "

EISENHOWER ADDRESS...
The conjunction of an immense military
establishment and a large arms
industry is new in the American
experience. The total influence -
economic, political, even spiritual -
is felt in every city, every
statehouse, every office of the
Federal Government... In the councils
of government we must guard against
the acquisition of unwarranted
influence, whether sought or unsought,
by the military industrial complex.
The potential for the disastrous
rise of misplaced power exists and
will persist... We must never let
the weight of this combination
endanger our liberties or democratic
processes. We should take nothing

For howsoever foolish he was in his personal relations, I doubt if Spitzer published an editorial publically attacking the OCC without first checking his facts. But if you don't trust them, double-check them yourself instead of just bad-mouthing blindly.
It wasn't a U Tube video, and the text of Spitzer's editorial is available from the Washington Post, for starters.
In this particular case, the legitimacy of the facts have nothing to do with the prostitution case -- they can be verified independently.
The point is that the decision to go after this particular politician for his bedroom hankie-pankie when so many politicians are undoubtedly just as guilty was politically motivated and had the effect of covering a much more important scandal by drawing attention elsewhere. In magic, they call such a maneuver sleight-of-hand. "

In big letters on the front, and in the text of the letter the offers say "FIXED RATE!!!" But there's an asterisk. Looking at the tiny print, there's notice that they can change the "fixed" rate any time they want! So, how is that a "fixed" rate?!??
Thank goodness for my decent job, and that I've paid down my debt and hope to have it gone within the next 2-3 years, tops. It must be a nightmare for people with modest salaries or on fixed incomes. How can people be blamed for "not planning better" when there are these predators out there pulling the rug out from under them this way? If you make financial plans for your future based on your earnings and your understanding that a fixed rate is fixed, then the creditor suddenly boosts the rate to double what it was, how is that your fault that you can't afford your debt? It's just not right, neither what the predatory lenders are doing, nor those who are so judgemental towards people in debt. "
