HIT: To a second straight weekend filled with Easter egg hunts for the area's children, including the massive hunt put on by Owasco-Fleming Kiwanis at Hoopes Park in Auburn.
The smiles on children's faces were well worth the relatively chilly conditions for these spring traditions.
Families should be grateful to have so many of these hunts during the Easter season. We should all be especially thankful for the volunteers who put everything together.
MISS: To a fire Sunday that has forced an Auburn family out of their home.
The Delevan Street fire severely damaged a house occupied by an Auburn couple with three children, as well as a fourth on the way in about three months. The loss is certainly devastating, but thankfully no one was injured in the blaze.
MISS: To the lingering effects that the September fire at the Highland Park County Club clubhouse is causing.
After initially telling many couples that they would still be able to honor summer wedding receptions in 2008, the club in recent weeks has canceled those events, citing insurance and safety concerns as they work to rebuild their facilities.
The club's late notice is putting many couples in a tough spot as they scramble to find a backup location for their receptions, something that is proving difficult at this time of year.
While it's true that the club is going through an extremely challenging time, it should not have waited this long to the pull the plug on these events.
HIT: To an apparent breakthrough in the annual battle farmers must wage against the alfalfa snout beetle.
Cornell University scientists say they've discovered a couple of worms that prey on these beetles, which have caused destruction to New York alfalfa fields for decades.
Overcoming this destruction would be a major boost for the state's agricultural industry.
