You know spring has officially arrived when you see alternating days of snow and sunny warm days. This would usually mean Easter is soon approaching, but this year Easter came early.
Speaking of Easter, the Fingerlakes Mall kicked off its first egg hunt March 15, which was very successful. The hunt was held in an empty store space for children under the age of 6. The event was free to the public and the children left with a large bag full of candy, toys, stickers, free passes to a movie or a game of golf.
Some even left big winners, if they were lucky enough to find one of the special plastic eggs that directed them to customer service to claim a grand prize that was courtesy of both JC Penney and KB Toys.
Next year, we would like to hold this event more than once to give more children an opportunity to participant as this year we had to limit the number of participants due to maximum room occupancy and strict codes.
The Bridal Show, which took place March 2, was a huge success as well, with many future brides visiting our vendors, who ranged from tuxedos, caterers, DJ's, make-up consultants, jewelry and much more. This is an annual event at the mall and has grown larger with a wider variety of participants for brides to visit. The fashion show, which previews the latest in bridal trends, is always a crowd pleaser.
Special thanks to Antoinette's Bridal, Maurices, Deb Shop and Tuxedo Junction for sharing its models and fashions.
We were especially proud to host a meeting here in March which introduced a panel of local businesswomen to the New Vision students from the BOCES New Visions Program. Marlene Bryany, program manager for city planning; Jennifer Haines, director of city planning; Kristy LaManche, of the regional planning board; Debbie Pinckney, the Aurelius town clerk, and Fingerlakes Mall general manager, Diane Jurczak-Prue answered questions from students on various topics, from the region staving off recession to the Stardust Foundation of CNY. This meeting was not only very informative but strived on how important it is to be committed to staying in Auburn and buying in Auburn.
