This letter was recently received, unsolicited, at the local Red Cross chapter. In celebration of Red Cross Month 2008 and the services which the chapter offers year round, I would like to share it with the community. - Susan Marteney, executive director of the Cayuga County Red Cross

Dear Susan,

I need to express my gratitude to the Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

My daughter's best friend, Marissa Stroup, stayed with us after her family recently lost their home on Mann Street in Auburn to a fire. Her parents came over for coffee one evening and being a homeowner myself, I had many questions about what to do when something so devastating happens.

Mrs. Stroup told me that the Red Cross was one of the first calls they made and how extremely helpful your chapter was. I was so pleased to hear such rave reviews that I felt that I needed to share this with you. The family is now renting a house in town and Marissa has her own bedroom for the first time in her life. She moved back home with her family on Sunday. Although my house feels a little less full, I am filled with thanks to the Red Cross for helping members of our community.

I know it's your job, but I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
