VESTAL - A 38-year-old man led police on a car chase that reached speeds over 100 mph before killing himself with a shotgun inside his home where the pursuit ended.
Broome County Sheriff David Harder said authorities were continuing their investigation into the incident involving Thomas Leskovich but that his death had been ruled a suicide by the county coroner.
Harder said Sheriff's Sgt. Shaun Carnevale spotted Leskovich speeding on a local road about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday and began chasing him when he failed to pull over. State police soon joined in.
At one point, Leskovich was driving the wrong way on a busy highway at speeds more than 100 mph, Harder said.
Carnevale and the troopers followed the man to his house, where he ran inside. They went in to arrest him, but retreated when he pointed a shotgun at them.
They were leaving the house when they heard a gunshot. Harder said no shots were fired by police.
