A Geneva woman was sentenced in Cayuga County Court Thursday to 6 years in prison for selling drugs.
Consualo Sanders, 23, asked to receive a drug treatment program, which could have gotten her out of jail early, but Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone refused, based on Sanders' conflicting statements about whether she has a drug problem.
Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann said that when Sanders was convicted of another felony drug charge more than a year ago, she had said that she did not have a substance abuse problem, increasing her chances of being released on parole. On the current charges, Budelmann said, Sanders said she has suffered from substance abuse issues for the past five years.
Leone said he would recommend Sanders receive treatment for her addiction while she was in prison but said it would not make her eligible for an early release.
