Two Cents

When the governor was sworn in, how come tax dollars are used for various religious leaders to speak and God's name is used several times, but our children cannot mention God or have religious people speak at any school functions? How come?

Like the emperor with no clothes story, The Citizen is just ignoring the fact that they took away the conservative Two Cents column, they took away the conservative writer and didn't replace Judy Ducayne, and Guy Cosentino is getting more and more ridiculously liberal, pro-Democrat Party locally, and the conservative letters are getting scarcer and scarcer. It's a serious problem here that nobody seems to care anything about.

Why is it that the city would like us to be responsible for our trash to look neat and tidy --- can't their employees do the same? I understand that they are not paid much, but who is?

Now that he has the nomination clinched, and is looking to appeal to the rest of America, Obama is trying to distance himself from that and those who have helped him so much. Go figure!

I was watching Greta Van Sustern interviewing Bill Clinton. He wants back in that White House so bad! Wow!

" Karl L I have enjoyed what you do for a living since I was a kid. Maybe it's because I'm 46 now and see things through different eyes. When I read your letters or post on here I may not always agree and do at times, point being, the thought that pops in my head isn't what you do. It's what you write as a member of our community.

Keep up the great writing as does Farmers Gal. It sure keeps me thinking.

" Please pardon me. The current bailout is for 230 billion, not 200 as I noted earlier.

This capitalism stuff is great isn't it?
The top executives at Bear Stearns get to keep their billion dollar bonuses since they now don't have to declare bankruptcy.

Nothing like privatizing profits and socialising the losses. (that means WE pay for it when they screw up, but don't get anything when they make a killing, for those who can't figure it out)

I am so sick of the greedy scumbag "free market" (what a cruel joke, eh?) republicans who think of noone but themselves, and their sycophants who are delusional, it makes me want to scream. "

" Neither the president or the Congress are working us. But what do you care CM, as long as there are those who PROFIT from this arrangement, even if it isn't "we the people"? "

karl L wrote on Mar 19, 2008 10:36 AM:

" quiveringthigh, I won't discuss matters of music here, except in regard to downloaders stealing music which they have no legitimate right to do--my comments on that matter are already on record, not only here, but in the press. I don't want to be on here discussing the music industry and bringing in that part of my professional life; I try to distance my personal life from it so as to keep things separate--it's easier that way.
stevedallas--I never bring up my profession in my editorial letters, so I don't connect the two anyway. I don't act as a spokesman for my company, only myself, and that's the way it should be. "

" quiveringthigh
that is exactly my opionion/gripe!
Everyone here says or blames the President but it is NOT, nor ever has been just ONE person.
Congress is worse than ever-they get to add all the "pork" without the Presidents approval or the citizens votes-then we all wonder how did this happen and taxes have gone up?
Porks, need to be a public vote!

Have you ever watched Congress today on TV? Some are sleeping in their chairs?! We are paying bucks for their salaries and they sleep on the job?
Some never show to "work" -we still pay them for it! If it was you or I--our bosses would FIRE us. Shouldn't we be able to FIRE them without waiting for a term to end?

What this country really needs is a whole new congress--ours is not working FOR the people! "

brew1234 wrote on Mar 19, 2008 1:49 AM:

" Actually Tipper Gore only asked for advisory labels on music and video games. It was Walmart and other retailers pandering to right wing religious zealots that censored music and video games and still does to this day.
Also you can't be a racist if you don't like someones politics. Racism refers to the race you are born to not your politics. DUH! "

quiveringthigh wrote on Mar 18, 2008 11:39 PM:

" Just a thought.... It isn't really whom is elected into the commander in chief position. The Legislative Branch has more pull. Remember the president can use the power to veto, but a 2/3 vote can override the veto. Congress has a lot to say in how this country is run, and that means our senators we vote for account for what our country does. Then there are the lobbyists and the invisible hands that hold green paper and put it in the pockets of these greedy politicians. Politics is a very dirty money driven game. It basically says whoever has the most green, wins. Focus on Saudi Arabia. How many of you really know what is going on there?

On a different note, which pertains to Karl with a K, were you a supporter for Al Gore when he ran? I hope not. Being you are a musician and knowing Tipper Gore was the "queen" of the PMRC. I am not starting a fight, but just curious to know where you stand. I used to have a video of the hearings. What a crock of manure. I mostly saved it because of what Zappa said to defend censorship, but after really listening to it, I saw where it was headed. Just a little food for thought. I would like to pick your brain on that. Karl, I would rather discuss music with you than politics. And You??? "

" My overall point is:
I have a great friend for over 20+ years-I would never turn my back on her for any "in the news" or "my face on camera"....
These politicians, especially Obama right now-is faking his own agenda. He is hurting himself by denial, lies, and cover ups. Plus adding "doing/saying" things out of HIS Norm.
If wants me to believe he is sincere in changing America, (which he can't do without Congress), then he needs to stand his ground..
If he cant stand his ground with the media or the voters then he will not be able to stand up to Congress therefore, is NOT ready to lead. "

" Interesting thing about McCain on that site, AJ--I saw it on MSNBC already too.
Actually, I believe McCain and the hawks don't really care WHO we're fighting, as long as we're just fighting SOMEBODY!
If we're not in Iraq, the Balkans, or Russia, they'll invent a reason to invade like, Ecuador or Bali or the like!
These people need killin' to make them feel like men--pathetic wimps! "

karl L wrote on Mar 18, 2008 8:34 PM:

" movedsouth, why don't you take all your money and savings for your kids and just donate them to the military, cuz that's what you're doing if you support McCain and his damned war.
Personally, I don't give a rat's A** about Iraq--theyve had enough time to sort out a political compromise, and if they can't get their ship together, I don't want to have to babysit them--AND PAY FOR IT!--for the next 100 years!!
Besides, you hypocrite---THERE'S ALREADY GENOCIDE IN SUDAN--WHY AREN'T YOU CRYING ABOUT GOING IN THERE TOO???!!

Farmer's Gal--no problem, honey, just wanted to put that it there. I still love ya! =)

Good thing they managed to find 200+ billion to bail out some mismanaged financial institutions, but can't pay for health care, etc. "

Hmmm, and he has been in the papers for several years and they let his delinquency slide? What is wrong with this picture. Save your coins for the red cross and those really needy folks! Victims of disasters! Not "personal problems!" I am with you, armymom. We do what we can afford, live and drive what we can afford. Live within your means, what a concept! "

" movedsouth, if you wouldn't vote for a man just because of his fidelity/infidelity to his Church's policies, than please just stay the heck home in November.
How many Catholics or Baptists out there do you think either don't fully know, care, or DO know but don't follow their Church policies?
YOu know what I would wish for America?
That people would just stop paying attention to Church and Religion in politics--where the HELL has it gotten this country in he last 8 years when the Church has basically set up shop in the Oval Office?
IN the toilet we're in now!
VOTE CHANGE!!! Vote COMPETENCY!!!

BTW the answer to comment #1 is, because kids are young and impressionable, and should not be indoctrinated to certain creeds in school--which is invariably what happens when you get Religion taught in schools. It's not the same as a non-denominational prayer or oath; besides, to some degree it's merely ritualistic tradition. "

I dont think it was sudden either because the city gives Joe Regular in Auburn a 3 year leeway to catch up on property taxes b4 the property can be sold at public auction. So to put two plus two together to be over $15k in the hole makes me think someone wasnt treated like Joe Regular of Auburn if you get my drift? "

Thank goodness Fox News is all horsehockey, now Sir Paul isn't out 50 big ones, the Gulf is doing fine, and nobody got hurt in Wisconsin... phew! "

" I don't have a ton of sympathy for Brandstetter - if he owes over $15,000 in property taxes, it's not because he temporarily fell on hard times. He must have bailed on them for several years. People have financial difficulties all the time and manage to scrape by without handouts from others. My family hasn't had a vacation in about 6 years - not even a camping trip - because we can't afford it. And we don't buy new cars, or go out to dinner EVER. And we didn't have any more children, even though we would have liked one more, because we couldn't afford it. But we DO pay our property taxes every year. "

Liberals were right about Bush, this war, the economy, and America for the past 8 years--it's about time people start listening to more Liberals, and ignoring the self-serving, divisive rhetoric of Conservatives! "
