HIT: To the bipartisan support given to new Gov. David Paterson at his swearing-in ceremony Monday.
While we expected to see Democratic and Republican state legislators give Paterson a warm welcome as part of the “honeymoon” period so many people have been discussing in recent days, it was encouraging to see so many other leaders from both sides of the aisle who work outside Albany travel to the Capitol for Monday's ceremony.
Arguments and political gamesmanship will certainly return in the coming days and weeks, but maybe this sense of civility can stick around for a little while longer.
HIT: To the organizers and participants in all the Easter egg hunts taking place throughout the area.
A handful of the hunts took place last weekend, and more are planned for this coming weekend.
These events are a fun diversion for families, and they reinforce the community spirit that exists in so many local municipalities.
MISS: To the arrest of a former Cayuga Community College student on charges that he stole roughly $22,000 from a college account through some type of fraudulent scheme.
Police are not releasing too many details about the case for security reasons, but it's a reminder how vulnerable we all are these days when it comes to protecting our bank and credit card accounts.
The defendant will certainly have his day in court, but regardless of the outcome, we hope some concrete steps have been taken to better protect CCC's accounts.
HIT: To the Syracuse University women's basketball team, which earned a spot in the NCAA tournament this year.
This team's emergence is a much-needed feel-good story for the SU athletic program. The team also is serving as an inspiration to so many girls involved in local sports, especially basketball, where the Orange men's team has gobbled up most of the attention through the years.
