Thomas wins USBC singles title
Keith Thomas bowled a 768 handicap series to take the singles handicap title in Auburn USBC Championships. Thomas won $150 for his efforts.
Jason Whiteside rolled 763 to earn second and $135. Rounding out the top five were Scott Thomas (760, $120), Neale Baran (756, $105) and Todd Wilcox (751, $90). Wilcox also earned a plaque for winning the scratch singles (742).
In the handicap doubles event, David MacDonald and Baran finished first (1,460, $300). Next was team Chad Bodner-Chris Binns (1,449, $240), followed by Greg Walczyk-Gary Donalds (1,424, $180), Kevin Gabak-Ed DeTomaso (1,421, $120) and Dan Guzalak-Dick Guzalak (1,408, $100).
Steve Crozier and Jamie Cordway (1,392) won the scratch title.
Baran (2,209, $125) won the handicap all-events. Keith Thomas (2,151, $105) placed second, followed by Tom Knapp (2,144, $95), Jim Melfi (2138, $85) and Norm Austin (2,129, $75).
Knapp captured the scratch title, also earning a plaque.
700 Club Trios bowl Sunday
There are still openings for the 700 Club Trios event at noon Sunday at Cedar House Lanes. It is open to men or women who have rolled a sanctioned 700 series. It costs $20 per person. To make a reservation, call Dennis O'Donnell at 252-1939 or 224-2412.
No-Tap continues at King Ferry
The ninth annual King Ferry Lanes No-Tap Team Handicap Tournament will run every Tuesday and Sunday throughout March. Five-person teams may have any combination of men and women, and there is a maximum average of 1,050.
The event costs $150 per team, and first prize is $1,000. Handicap is 80 percent of 200. Squads on Tuesdays are 7 and 9 p.m., while Sunday squads are 10 a.m. and noon. The top six qualifying teams will roll off March 25 at 7 p.m. Flyers are available at all area bowling centers. Teams should reserve a spot by calling Bill Dockstader at 364-8009.
