Recently, I learned that there was a family in our community that was having financial difficulties: former school board member Kent Brandstetter and his family. It saddened me to see anyone struggle to pay their bills. I know that Mr. Brandstetter has always been a voice for the people especially when he held a seat on the Auburn school board. He always emphasized the financial difficulties that many of us felt. These constant yearly tax increases of 6 percent are draining all of our pockets.
There has always appeared to be a lack of understanding by our board members. Instead of seeing the taxpayers' struggles they would push for more and more things we didn't need. A good example of this would be turf. We don't need turf. We don't even want turf. We already voted and said no to turf. Us “common” people need to heat our homes, buy food, pay doctor bills, have running water and these “elite” cannot understand that?
No, they don't care what we are going through in order to stay financially afloat. Our taxes keep going up, up, up, with no end in sight. These “elite few” prey on our paychecks so they can get their own desires filled.
The Brandstetters have been taxed to death and now face foreclosure. Kent Brandstetter and Joe Leogrande have always fought for us even though school board members have given them a hard time. I support Joe Leogrande's efforts to get 1,000 people to give $15 each to help Mr. Brandstetter and his family. Kent is a loving husband, father and grandfather. What has happened to Kent's family, could happen to any of us. It's nice that we have a choice where our hard-earned money goes, instead of being forced to pay for other people's luxury wants.
It's always refreshing to watch our community come together to help someone in need. I urge you to help Kent Brandstetter and his beautiful family. Our area is filled with compassionate people. Please be generous and help this man and his family that have fought for each of us. Please mail or drop checks off to 161 E. Genesee St., Auburn, for the Brandstetter family.

Now then--I'll be holding onto my money, thank you, until someone tells me two things.
One--what in tarnation made Mr Brandstetter think in his wildest dreams that he could support TEN CHILDREN?!?!?
And two, what "personal matter" has forced him into this hole? I'd like to know if we're supporting a drug addict, or a compulsive gambler, or a tax cheat?
In any one of these cases, the WORST thing you could do is enable them and not let them learn from their mistakes.
I wish the Brandstetters no ill will, but have serious doubts as to what good it will do to simply write this guy a check and "bail him out"?
