NEW YORK - A year ago it wasn't even close.
Georgetown got out to a big early lead, Roy Hibbert dominated the smaller Pittsburgh Panthers in the post, and the Hoyas celebrated their first Big East tournament title in 18 years with a laughable 23-point victory.
But the Panthers got their revenge Saturday.
In its third straight title game, seventh-seeded Pittsburgh won its fourth game in four nights, claiming the Big East tournament title with a 74-65 victory over the top-ranked Hoyas.
Tournament MVP Sam Young led the Panthers with 16 points, Ronald Ramon added 17 points and DeJuan Blair had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
A Big East title is something that has continually eluded the Panthers (26-9). Though it has played in the championship game seven of the past eight years, Pittsburgh had previously come away with only one victory when it beat Connecticut in 2003.
It was just the third time all season that Georgetown has allowed an opponent to score at least 70 points in a game.
