How come anytime someone says anything about Obama they are racist. Give me a break -- he has as much experience as a school crossing guard.
Bush and Cheney and their oil cronies are smiling all the way to the bank with $100+ oil. Thanks George, you're doing a heck of a job.
We now have a real Democrat for governor. It's about time.
If Tim Lattimore, locally, or one of our white presidential candidates, nationally, ever went to a church where the minister said things one-hundredth as racist and bad as Barack's minister says, the liberal elite from Cosentino in Auburn to everybody in the national scene would be going crazy against the white guy. It's so unfair and despicable.
When Guy Cosentino or Leogrande or Brower says anything about race, it's a big story in the paper, but when somebody on the other side points out very, very good points, the paper refuses to allow that to go into the paper. It's so unfair and the public's finally wising up to it.
Your Associated Propaganda article on steel for the Freedom Tower doesn't fit with the first steel sent to American by Luxembourg. If it wasn't for American GIs and their small arms, Luxembourg would be speaking German and their steel would be made for them.

Is this person trying to say that they are voting for the Obama hater who made the post?
If not, karl should probably go off on a rant about their poor grammar.

let's vote to leave grammar and spelling out of it --no one is perfect.

Thanks for the thought, excnyer, but Karl and I have mutual respect enough to be able to kid around with each other sometimes (even though we've never met before this forum nor in person).
Once you get to know Karl, you'll know he's no buddy to the Bushes. His opinions tend to be strong and clear, and whether you agree with him or not, there's no mistaking where he stands (that's intended as a compliment).
Welcome and don't let the mini-faux-pas get you down -- we all make 'em! "

Bottom line is we have laws governing immigration for a reason -- if people from other countries want to immigrate here, let them follow the rules -- or forget it! "

I agree the illegals have no rights to enforce my tax dollars to pay for their needs!
If they want to come here, then follow the rules of our laws-starting with the proper paperwork! Not sneaking in under the imaginary fence!
Did you know that many Texans have had to pay $$ for LAWSUITS due to an illegal jummping over the fence onto their property and getting hurt!!???

Can't you see the silliness of your stand.
When immigrants came to the USA at the turn of the Twentieth Century, they were faced with the same attitudes. They were called all sorts of names, forced to live in "their own" sections of cities and only given the most degrading jobs. The "established" Americans hurled insults and warned of impending doom if these "foreigners" were allowed entry here.
Unless you are a native American...you have no room to KAVETCH.
The original immigrants were "criminals" in their former countries. STOP THE SILLINESS...WHO MADE YOU BETTER THAN ANOTHER.... "
irritated wrote on Mar 16, 2008 10:15 AM:
Her point:
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, 'No! I like it here. It's better than my house. I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house. You are Required to feed me.You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan. You are Required to Educate my kids. You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family (my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house.
And what a deal it is for me!!!
I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.
Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you learn MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can communicate with me.
Why Can't people see how ridiculous this is?
If you agree, pass it on ... If not blow it off ... along with your future Social Security funds, and a lot of other things.

After a rainy morning-my neighbors yard was filled with no less than 20 birds-
Just maybe all this construction around us-the flocks are coming to our area for a food source-
We added food our bird house-many bluejays have been around today.

Karl with a K, where do you get off thinking I am this incompetent and "neanderthal troglodytes"? You do not know me personally, furthermore, you do not have any idea of what I do, or have done for lifetime achievements. Perhaps we need to sit somewhere and have a drink or two and talk about it. I don't come here to flame other writers. I come here to voice an opinion. Along with Stevedallas, you are unhappy with what I say. I have no problem with that, but I do not think attacking me personally is a nice thing to do. I believe you and stevedallas live in Auburn. Well I do not. Perhaps one reason I moved was to stay away from idiotic people like yourself. Understand, rubberband? "

I hear you, naturelover, on your points against Obama, and I can't disagree. The lack of a real choice is disheartening, but sadly nothing new. Our "choices" from this sad field do not match, each for our own reasons, but I think we can both see (and Karl too) that the relative merits of any candidate truly in the running this year are shadowed by all kinds of flaws, and we are left deciding for ourselves which flaws bother us less than the others.
I'll be voting for Obama, but it's not as if I'll be out there singing his praises and hopping up and down with excitement if he wins (which I hope he does, but only because it means the others have not).
BTW, currently reading "New England White," by Stephen L. Carter, who is perhaps better known for his brave book "Reflections of an Affirmative Action Baby."
Carter is an African-American from Ithaca, his father was a professor at Cornell and he is a lawyer and professor at Yale. "AA Baby" is his well-argued case against Affirmative Action as not good for black people and only helping perpetuate the idea that blacks only get jobs (and other "perks") because of their race.
I confess -- I read murder mysteries for my "junk" reading (hey, it's got to be better than romances, which I cannot stomach under any circumstances) -- and this latest book is Carter's second volume of fiction. The blurb tells us it takes us inside the world of wealthy African-Americans -- a world into which most of us white folks, rich or poor, have no entree and no clue.
Given the Obama candidacy, it should be an interesting and possibly informative read.
I know someone will feel compelled to give me grief for tooting my own horn quietly here at the bottom of my post, but I spent this morning at the Ithaca Area Toastmasters contest -- and took first prize in the International Speech competition. That means I'll go on next to the Division level, where I'll face stiff competition. It's two weeks off -- wish me luck! "

Second, yes, I SINCERELY BELIEVE THAT THE INEXPERIENCED FRESHMAN SENATOR IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT!!!
I believe this becasue 1., of the three running, NO ONE could be worse than McCain! This guy is a post-traumatic-stressed-out psycho (did you read the Newsweek article about him? You should!)who's still trapped in a Viet Cong cage in his head. I worry about his temper, his vindictiveness, his age, and his stability. Every time you see him, he's like, grinding his teeth and looks like he's ready to just spray the room with an AK! He's a fear monger and a war monger. He's also a phony flip-flopper on tax cuts. 2. the time to move on from the Clinton years in now. and 3., I'm not afraid of giving a fresh and relatively untested person be president--hey, no one could do worse than Bush has, so anywhere we go from here would be an improvement. I think Barack will do amazing things, people just need to get past the racist attacks against him.
Ans lastly DD, I wish people would JUST STOP listening to preachers and holy demagogues! When are people going to realize that PREACHERS ARE FOOLS!?!? I for one would be thrilled to see the Religious Right take all--and I DO mean ALL--of their preachers, televangelists, Washington advisors, policy hacks and moral watchdogs and crawl back into the hole where they came from! When are people going to stop listening to these tiny-minded men? "
nature lover wrote on Mar 15, 2008 11:11 AM:
Now with Obama, McCain, etc, I think we are ALL using selective hearing because I am hearing ALOT about Obama's 'spiritual leader' of 22!! years, a man he always returned to and was married by this man. And now suddenly he is distancing himself. I think Obama is just as crooked as the rest of them, I mean look at the almost $200K raise his wife recd - tell me they aren't priviledged. And eloquence doesnt mean roll up the sleeves lets get the work done type of person. Obama clearly is relishing the spotlight but I am doubtful he is the type of person to handle the Whitehouse. So I guess what it boils down to is this, they all SUCK basically but what one will be able to handle all the troubles we face as a country. I still wish for Hill. I feel again disillusioned by the choices. "

Hillary has taken too much money from lobbyists, and I just have seen a side of her that I don't like and don't trust. She really seems to be going "low" to try to score with voters, and I'm sick of that from a candidate.
But more than that, I'm ready for something new--no more Clintons or Bushes, no more warmongers or personal vendettas in DC. Look, after the last disastrous 8 looooong years, we really can't do any worse! It's time to give a totally new fresh voice and face a chance. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE could be worse than Bush right now, so I'm voting for change--change from war, change from Bush/Clinton.! "

Here's what I have to say, to continue to conversation on this day's page:
Obama speaks well without notes. He's sharp on his feet and natural, rather than only pronouncing carefully crafted sound-bytes written by his handlers, as Sen Clinton does.
I like his superior speaking abilities, but it isn't a top necessary qualification to be President. I hear things I don't like about Obama, I most definitely do not like his stance on illegal immigration AT ALL, but overall the things I dislike about him are not as bad nor as many as the things I don't like about the other candidates.
Stuck with the lesser of evils yet again. We all suffer under the delusion of having an actual choice in our elections.
And curious it is, isn't it, that so few of us actually know anyone who voted for Bush. More reasons to resist electronic voting machines!
But the very best thing about Obama is his LACK of "experience" -- that means he is less integrated into the machinery of corruption that has been running our country for so long, less owned by the corporations and special interests.
Oh, and in the post by Chris, I can't see a single thing wrong with any of the comments of Obama's pastor you quoted -- all true, correct and needing to be said. "
