Stuart piles up most mileage

This is the week to announce all of the winners at the Auburn YMCA. Of course all of our members and staff are winners every day but there are a couple of people who have benefitted from different programs.
Since January we ran our Pull, Pedal and Pound program which entailed using the rowing machines, the bike and the treadmill.

Mileage was kept on a daily basis and each event had a goal that had to be attained. Matt Stuart was the only person to participate and complete all three events, reaching the goal of 50,000 meters rowed for the month of December, 400 miles cycling for the month of January and 100 miles walking for the month of February. Congratulations to Matt for winning a one-year adult membership here at the YMCA.

Requiring a lot less energy but still coming out as a winner was Pauline Mastroleo who had her name drawn for the door prize drawing for this year's Health Fair. Pauline won a one-year senior citizen membership. She was not previously a member so this will be a great opportunity for her to come and join the Auburn YMCA.

On the same day, Greg Szczepanski won a two-month adult membership to the YMCA for his participation in our group cycling event. Congratulations to both of these individuals for their wins and we hope that they will get a lot of use out of their free memberships.

The Health Fair was a huge success thanks to our many sponsors and vendors. We had almost 125 people take advantage of the free blood cholesterol screening. Besides the blood screenings, lots of people were seen getting their blood pressure monitored, talking to various health professionals and getting chair massages. The refreshment table was quite popular and many were walking around with plastic bags full of goodies from all of the vendors. A special thank you to Sen. Michael Nozzolio for his financial support of this endeavor as well as to the Auburn Memorial Hospital Laboratory.

We also had our group cycling extravaganza going on the same time as the Health Fair. All of our instructors were there to give people an opportunity to see what group cycling is really like. An introduction to group cycling began with instructors showing people how to set the bikes up for each individual and how to run the bikes. Next, our instructors took everyone through a guided ride with different jumps, railroad tracks, riding uphill and coasting down.

We have been accumulating quite a few door prizes for our Bowl-A-Thon on April 27. Not only will it be a great time but the door prizes make it worth coming to the event. Be sure to get a team together so that you can participate also.

With daylight savings time, more people seem to be out later at night and we are seeing them here as they work out and get ready for the spring and summer months. Hope all of you are getting ready for good weather and lots of activities.
