Easter's on its way, though relatively early this year beginning at March 23. To celebrate the coming holiday, local venues are hiding eggs, dying shells and breakfasting with the Easter Bunny in an array of events.
What would Easter be without an Easter egg hunt - or two or four? The Easter egg - whether it be a chocolate, plastic, beeping (or clucking, for the hearing impaired), faberge or just a plain chicken egg - is usually the center of much attention for this holiday.
And whether one believes that the eggs symbolize life, the goddess of eggs and hares - Eostre - or that they are just a yummy snack after Lent, one thing's for sure - there will certainly be an abundance of eggs and prizes to hunt for this year.
The Sterling Nature Center's the place to dye them. It invites guests to “see what colors you can get from your pantry just in time for the spring table.” Guests are advised to please bring their own eggs and make sure children are accompanied by an adult.
Another tradition related to the Easter season is pancake day. According to pancakeday.net, though typically celebrated the day before Lent, the idea is that one must use up all their cooking fats before Lent, as they were prohibited - so what better way than pancakes? And it seems the fluffy breakfast cakes have become a tasty Easter enjoyment. If breakfast guest are lucky, the Easter Bunny might breakfast with them.
