A Weedsport man pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court Tuesday morning to third-degree rape for having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
George Burgman, 29, of 1157 N. Seneca St., Weedsport, faces a sentence of 1 to 3 years in prison, with eight months having already been served at the Cayuga County Jail. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
Burgman asked to be sentenced only to the time he has already served so he could go back to his child and find a job.
Cayuga County Judge Mark Fandrich said that his duty was not just to Burgman's child but also to the 15-year-old with whom Burgman had sex.
Fandrich issued an order of protection for the victim and set sentencing for April 22.

An Auburn teen was granted youthful offender status and placed on five years probation for stealing $4,600 in cash and bonds from a safe in her uncle's house.
The 18-year-old has a complicated history of crime, drugs and mental health issues contributing to her ending up in court, her lawyer, Simon Moody, said.
“Efforts to help her have not been sufficient,” Moody said. “That's not to say she doesn't take responsibility for her actions. But not everyone is fortunate enough to grow up with two parents and a white picket fence.”
“She is only 18 years old, its not time to throw away the key,” Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann said.
“But she has been in trouble eight times before. We need to make sure we are not just delaying the inevitable.”
Fandrich struggled with whether to grant her youthful offender status and place her on probation or not, but decided she was already heading in the right direction by holding down a job.
Fandrich added that her probation would require seeking treatment for her mental health issues and paying restitution of $4,600
