Winter weather is returning to the region, as the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Cayuga County and most of upstate New York.
The warning in Cayuga County runs from 4 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Sunday.

NWS forecasters said rain and snow will reach the area this afternoon and change over to all snow as the day goes on. Accumulations by 2 a.m. Saturday will range from 2 to 5 inches.

After an overnight lull, precipitation will pick up again Saturday morning, first as sleet or freezing rain and then changing to snow, which could be heavy at times during the afternoon. An additional 3 to 5 inches is expected by late Saturday.

Storm totals could fall between 7 and 11 inches of snow, while sleet and ice accumulation will be minor.
