HIT: To the Union Springs High School boys' basketball team, which captured a sectional championship Saturday.
The Wolves once again displayed the same determination they've used all season to earn the victory, determination that should serve them well in the state tournament.
Union Springs has been a consistently strong basketball program through the years, so it's nice they could collect a sectional crown to show for it this season.
MISS: To Syracuse University men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim, for his antics at the end of and then after Saturday's heartbreaking loss to Pittsburgh.
After his team lost the lead and then missed a shot near the end of the game, the coach earned a technical foul for losing his cool on the sideline and leaving the coaching box. That move basically ensured his team would not be able to attempt a final shot to tie or win, however remote the chances of doing that might have been.
After the game, Boeheim refused to take reporters' questions. Perhaps the coach didn't want to be asked about his questionable decisions, but that's part of his job. His own players certainly met with the media, and they had no problem accepting responsibility for their role in the loss. The coach should have done the same thing.
MISS: To the fire that badly damaged a home on Mann Street in Auburn Friday afternoon, and to the resulting arrest of a juvenile on charges that he set the fire.
Many facts of the case have not been released, but no matter what the outcome of the legal case, the family living in the home has suffered a great loss. We hope they can find some comfort in each other and friends.
MISS: To a lack of candidates for village elections this year in Cayuga County.
Of seven villages with open seats, just three have competitive races. While the candidates in the uncontested races might be the best people for the job, the public loses when their are no choices and no campaigns to talk about local issues.
