A winter storm warning in effect for most of the region through Tuesday night is calling for heavy ice accumulation late in the afternoon and early evening.
The National Weather Service said precipitation will spread into the area after a lull most of the day, starting as snow and then changing into sleet and freezing rain. The precipitation could become heavy at times and produce up to a half-inch of ice, along with 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet.
The ice could make travel conditions dangerous, and it also could bring down tree branches and power lines.
The National Weather Services advises people to let someone know of their travel plans if they do have to drive, and to keep a cell phone for emergencies.
