The Auburn swimming team went to the NYSPHSAA Championship with high hopes of coming home with a few state titles.
But the Maroons came up just short on Saturday, taking second in the 200 medley relay.
Entering the event, Auburn was ranked first in the relay but lost to Shakers by four-hundreths of a second. Pat O'Donovan, Preston Chaffee, Sean McNamara and Lucas Zelehowsky finished the event in 1:37.44.
O'Donovan, making his third trip to states, finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (51.64).
McNamara swam in the 50 freestyle for the fourth time in his career and finished in and seventh place (21.93).
O'Donovan, Lucas Zelehowsky, Adam Zelehowsky and Chaffee led the Maroons to 10th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:19.15).
Auburn finished third in Section III Class A with six individual first-place finishes. O'Donovan earned Swimmer of the Year honors, winning two events. They finished the regular season undefeated.
