An Auburn man faces five years in state prison for a pair of assaults.
James Scott, 25, of 144 Van Anden St., Auburn, pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court Thursday to two counts of second-degree assault and faces two concurrent five year terms for the assault of a fellow inmate at the Cayuga County Jail and for another assault in March 2007.
Scott's uncle, Marvin Scott, let out a flood of expletives before storming out of the courtroom after hearing the proposed prison sentence.
After having Marvin Scott returned to the courtroom, Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone told him that if he did not apologize for his outburst he would spend the night in jail.
Marvin Scott then apologized.
Leone scheduled sentencing for James Scott for April 17.
Also in court:
An Auburn man's case was adjourned so he could discuss a plea deal with his lawyer and his family.
Morris Bowman, 21, of 145 Park Place, Auburn, needed time to think about pleading to second-degree robbery and third-degree sale of a controlled substance.
If he accepts the plea deal, Bowman could receive a 3.5 year determinate sentence.
A Moravia man pleaded guilty to second-degree possession of a forged instrument.
David Johnston, 26, of 10 Congress St., Moravia, admitted cashing a forged check at Moravia's Modern Market for $2,222.
In exchange for his plea, Johnston is expecting to receive shock camp treatment in addition to restitution when he is sentenced on April 17.
Leone joked about Johnston's weird luck with attorneys. Johnston was appearing in court with Joseph Sapio, his third attorney on this case. Johnston's last attorney, Brian Bauersfeld, had to remove himself because he will be starting his new job as an assistant district attorney for Cayuga County on Monday.
Johnston's attorney before Bauersfeld, accepted a position as an assistant district attorney in Onondaga County.
