This week, the Auburn YMCA is the place to be! Kids are here on a daily basis, swimming, playing basketball, playing racquetball and generally socializing.
On Tuesday, we had six teams of fifth and sixth graders who played a 4-on-4 round robin basketball team. The winners were the Rim Rockers, made up of Tommy Alexander, Matt Brooks, Mike Charles, Noah Christiantelli and Patrick Shaw with a 5-0 record.

The second-place winners were the Dark Side made up of Ben Pinchak, Lacey Netti, Matt Faiola, Max Pinchak and Matt Netti with a 4-1 record. Lacey Netti made 15 points and her brother, Matt had 10 according to them. They certainly all had a good time and got lots of good exercise out of the program.

It is time for the next weigh-in for the Use it or Lose It Program. Can#'t wait to see the results from tonight's and tomorrow's weigh-in.

We will be posting all of the losses on the wall outside the fitness office after tomorrow. So far, almost all of the teams have had total weight losses of over 15 pounds.

In the last couple of weeks, the professional staff of the Auburn YMCA have been asking members to be part of a focus group that will help us with strategic planning for the next 5 to 10 years. We are asking members from all different areas and ages to answer four pertinent questions about the YMCA.

So far, we have had some very interesting responses as to where people think the YMCA should be in years to come and what we should be offering.

It is always fun to get these answers especially from such varied groups, such as tweens to seniors. We are hoping to compile all of our results in the next couple of weeks to present to our board of directors by the spring.

Next week starts the beginning of a new session. Be sure to sign up for swim lessons, future body personal training, youth karate or one of the many other programs offered here at the Auburn YMCA. Athletic power training will start on Monday and hopefully some of the spring sport athletes will take advantage of this program to prepare themselves for their sport and give them a leg up on the teammates.

Also, we will be starting our Fit to Be a Bride program as well as pregnancy fitness classes.

Don't forget our annual Health Fair, sponsored by Senator Mike Nozzolio, Auburn Memorial Hospital Laboratory and The Citizen, to be held on Saturday, March 8 from 8 to 10 a.m. Free blood cholesterol screening and glucose testing will be offered as well as information from a variety of health vendors and joint integrity testing by COAST Physical Therapy.

On the same day, we will be having a group cycling extravaganza from 9 to 11 a.m. We will show how to set up your bikes, adjust your resistance and will give sample ten minute rides from our various instructors.

Keep yourself healthy and be sure to come to the Auburn YMCA to get your workout in during the winter hours.
