Two Cents

Maybe somebody way more smarter than me could explain to me why the Hillary people go bonkers if the media doesn't use her middle name, and the Osama people go bonkers if the media does use his middle name.

Sen. Barak Obama and Sen. McCain apparently have a shield around them. Any negative comments that are made about them or by them are totally ignored.

Republicans use God and country for their own ulterior motives, like starting wars and corporate welfare. Democrats are closer to God's will with welfare to help the least of man, quoting Matthew 25, and to love thy neighbor, not blow him up.

The biggest reason almost all of us patriotic American refuse to buy a car made by the big three automakers, is because when you do, you are donating maybe $1,000 to the political party that endorses the killing of babies, the lifestyle of homosexuality and the legalization of drugs.

If the nine ultra-leftists running our school board cared a lick about the taxpayers and our children, they'd enact an order right now that the next 200 teachers hired in the city of Auburn be philosophically social conservatives, just to attempt to balance off the damage being done to our kids' minds in Auburn today.

" I'm not one for using labels like "leftist, liberal agenda" ("Left" and "Liberal" mean a lot of different things to different people, as do "Right" and "Conservative," and I find such labels anti-useful) -- but I would agree that there is a socio-political bias in education, one that has no business being there.

Welcome, "a different view" -- I don't think we've seen you here before. Thanks for the well-thought-out exposition of your view! "

" I agree. The pushing of ill informed leftist idealology drove me nuts back in my High School days. That was in the early to mid 90's and I know it has gotten worse. "

" The brains of individuals under the age of 18 are not sufficiently developed enough to thoroughly, critically think about the information presented in class. They are, however, beginning to learn to think abstractly and critically. In the process, they are more hormonally and emotionally driven than they are logically driven. These are indisputable facts about human development.

Curriculum for children up to this age that introduces topics from "new" or "advanced" platforms (which many people consider "liberal" and untested by time) takes advantage of this incomplete-development /hormone-emotion driven condition to advocate for those platforms.

If there was a balance in presentation between "conservative" and "liberal" platforms, I would not be as concerned. After raising 6 children, all in the public school system, and remembering very well the "liberal" platforms that were forced upon me in high school in the 70s, I can attest to the reality that balance does not exist, and that the scales are tipped toward the "liberal" platform.

Instead of protecting our children until they develop full reasoning capacity, the NEA promotes a curriculum designed to forward its political views and agenda. It is a carefully crafted, insidious approach that attacks parents who dare to oppose it.

I appreciate the hard work that so many teachers put forth in an effort to teach. I reject, however, that the curriculum is appropriate. As long as the school board tightly ties its decisions to NEA policies and curriculum, we will continue to see a decline in the quality of education in favor of the advancement of an illogical and damaging political agenda. "

" The unanswered question about the use of candidates' middle names:

Hillary Rodham Clinton hopes to appeal to feminist-leaning women, so she likes to show she still uses her maiden name.

Barack Hussein Obama knows that many Americans have an automatic prejudice against anything that sounds Muslim or Arabic, so he'd rather not use his Muslim-sounding middle name.

I don't know what so hard to understand about that -- both decisions are about image and how the public perceives the candidates.

(Actually, we had another ironic and humorous typo there -- the "Osama" people, instead of the "Obama" people. LOL! "

" Putting a number on how many pets is beyond ridiculas! I had 7 dogs and 4 cats which I cared for & loved. I paid for yearly exams, shots, and tags which came to about 100.00 per pet. Adding microchips, which is mandatory here for cats, if they go outside. But also better to microchip any pet in case of an emergency! I now have 3 dogs and 4 cats and I see it be to my business as to how many pets I choose to have. It should only be a legal issue if I don't care for them properly, let them run loose, or ignore the animals bad behaviors! "

" The people voting YES on the dog ordinance probably don't own pets and not thinking about the good owners. Also, isn't the city going to lose money yearly if they limit the number of dogs per house hold? Think about it. Every year you have to pay to keep them registered. "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Feb 27, 2008 11:55 AM:

" I couldn't believe that people polled here were voting in favor of a limit on the number of animals per household. That is such a stupid, in effective, unfair and "bean-counter" way to approach the problem.

If you set a number limit, then people like mer59mer and cm and other responsible, caring, good pet owner face the possibility of being forced to give up their pets, while some other negligent or abusive owner might have only one animal, but be treating it badly and letting it cause problems in the neighborhood. The number of pets is totally irrelevant. "

mer59mer wrote on Feb 27, 2008 10:46 AM:

" We were allowed to have four dogs to begin with, why let a select few take that away from us? My dogs are like my children. Unlike children, when one is lost to death , eventually it is replaced. I don't want that right taken away from me. Keep the limit at four. I doubt people in Auburn even know that there is a limit in place already. "

" Also, Sam Hill of Ledyard sells chickens and turkeys which are not cheap but out-of-this-world tasty. They are not totally "free-range" (I think he keeps them in roomy pens in the barn, and they run around in there) but they are kept under much better conditions than commercial poultry you can buy at the store. I believe he sells the chickens twice a year, and the turkeys only once a year, near Thanksgiving.

I think he's in the directory, and yes, his name really is "Sam Hill."

My ex and I used to have chickens -- totally free-range, happy, healthy birds right to the last second. They were tough as blazes, but I have never had such flavorful meat in all my days -- makes the stuff you get in the store taste like cardboard. Sam's birds have that same level of flavor. "

That's why we are being drained at the gas pump while GM, Ford and Chrysler have destroyed the highly successful EV1 (electric car used in California)and all three have been allowed to skirt the CAFE (look it up, morons) standards. Put down the Mountain Dew and jump off the cliff like a good little lemming.
