Despite a breakout performance from junior Margaret Roberts, the Weedsport girls basketball team couldn't hold off Beaver River in the Section III, Class C-2 championship game.
Allie Beardsley missed a desperation 3-pointer at the final buzzer as the Warriors fell 40-37 in the title game.
Roberts was the only double-digit scorer for Weedsport with 16 points. Leading scorer and rebounder Kaitlin Hammersley was held to just nine points and fouled out with 1:08 left in the game.
Weedsport led early but was kept off the scoreboard in the second quarter as the Beavers crept back into the game.
Roberts' inside play bolstered the Warriors in the second half but Weedsport turned the ball over in the game's final minutes to seal its fate.
The Warriors finished the season 15-6.
