The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for most of the region, including all of Cayuga County, from Tuesday into Wednesday.
The storm should reach the area by late Tuesday morning, with the heaviest accumulations taking place Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.
Snowfall totals are expected to range from 6 to 12 inches in the southern half of Cayuga County, and 8 to 12 inches in the northern half. Along the Lake Ontario shore, locally higher amounts are possible as the chance for lake effect snow increases.
A winter storm warning means travel conditions as a result of the weather are expected to be dangerous.
The warning for the southern half of the county runs from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 12 p.m. Wednesday, while in the northern half it runs from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
