Senior citizens are making themselves felt more and more around Cayuga County. One very active senior group is the Melrose Park club, which meets the last Thursday of every month for a delicious “dish to pass” luncheon at Sacred Heart Church.
Norma Guariglia is the president and Jean Sennesy is secretary.
The club is well-known for the many trips and special lunches which often feature guest speakers. A monthly newsletter is put out.
Word has it a trip is coming up May 19 and 20 to Forwood, Conn. and one to Italy Oct. 2 to 4.
This club really gets around! New members are welcome. Call 252-0204 for information.
Things get better with age:
Age 7: I've learned that when I wave to people in the country, they stop what they are doing and wave back.
Age 14: I've learned that just when I get my room the way I like it, Mom makes me clean it up again.
Age 26: I've learned that wherever I go, the world's worst drivers have followed me there.
Age 35: I've learned that some people love you dearly, but just don't know how to show it!
Age 40: I've learned that the greater a person's sense of guilt, the greater their need to cast blame on others.
Age 45: I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will get better tomorrow.
Age 55: I've learned that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage and tangled Christmas tree lights!
Age 60: I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a life.
Age 65: I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But if you focus on your family, the needs of others, your work and doing the best you can, happiness will find you.
Age 70: I've learned that everyone can use a prayer. And I've learned it pays to believe in miracles. I've seen several!
Age 80: I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.
Age 90: I've learned that I still have a lot to learn. (How very true! - D.N.)
Here's one more chance for me to say “thank you” to all my readers.
This will be my final “Gray Power” column, as I have decided to relieve myself of “meeting deadlines” in the future.
Many thanks for reading Gray Power in the past.
And I also thank The Citizen for printing Gray Power for these several years.
I have been proud to write for The Citizen.
It is a very fine local paper and has an excellent staff that keeps readers well-informed with the best journalistic standards. Keep up the good work.
