New York's First Lady Silda Wall Spitzer is trying to convince other state leaders to green up their governors' mansions.
The Spitzers are in Washington this weekend for a national gathering of governors, and she will speak to other spouses Sunday about her efforts to make the New York governor's mansion more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
With energy efficient appliances, solar panels and greener maintenance policies at the official residence in Albany, the Spitzers hope to make the historic building an educational model to encourage others to make similar changes at home.
"Coming at this as a novice, I thought this would be a great way to present the issue," she said. "All of this at the end of the day means people can live more affordably."
