Two Cents

That mysterious aroma people may be smelling in the air is actually a very beautiful aroma of the infield grass slowly growing as the wonderful sport of baseball's opening day is approaching. And we sure need it.

It's nice to see that some of the men on the garbage route have learned that if they pick the cover off of the garbage can and reach in and take the bag out, it's much easier than picking up the whole thing when it's not necessary, and throwing it around.

It's pathetic that America-hating Michelle Obama isn't proud of the fact that our Navy is able to hit a vehicle no bigger than Rosie O'Donnell, that's going 17,000 mph around the earth, hundreds of miles away. A wonderful thing.

It's criminal selling property for $1.

I'd like to thank Mr. Palesh for telling me where I can get some adult films in Auburn. Now I don't have to go all the way to Syracuse.

If Selig lets this thing keep going, the political people and the media will thrash baseball. Take some heat and declare amnesty for all players right now, and then institute a set of rules that can be policed post haste.

" nature lover, today I agree with you--
cm, imagine a world where your kids see two guys or girls kissing on the street and it doesn't phase them ONE BIT? Cuz, like--it's just two people who love each other? What's the big deal?
PDA's may not be appropriate, but it shouldn't matter WHO does it--condemn all, accept all! "

nature lover wrote on Feb 22, 2008 3:01 PM:

" While I agree with you CM regarding PDA should be toned down for all, I have to disagree with your prejudice regarding people that are gay. A person does not choose to be gay like we did not choose to be a certain sex or color. Finding a way to explain this to children is a humane way to express tolerance for all that they will carry with them their entire life. "

cm wrote on Feb 22, 2008 1:47 PM:

" I do have a predjudice on Gay rights. I firmly believe a couple is a man & women! While they are coming out, I am having a hard time explaining to my child why that guy is kissing that guy in a restaurant booth nearby!
If you are Gay and crazy in love-tone it down in public.
Yes, even many straight persons need to tone it down in public!! "

" I read the link KL, some of the studies seemed to be a tad old-alot has changed in the past 5 yrs.
Being into kids seems to be on a major rise-I am glad more tougher laws have been passed.
All of it is so personal, the toys, videos, magazines, which are to each persons satisfactions.
Since no 2 of us are alike-who knows what may be my thing is not your thing.
I agree sex is becoming more open which it should be-and kids are taught more at an earlier age due to society's nasty people.
I agree that couples who are intimate are happier as long as they both agree with when and how. Adding that each year changes ones effects of pleasure.
Open conversation is very much needed, yet sometimes parents "freakiness" have subdued/taken over daily relationships, even into our adult lives.
I admit that sometimes lack of, makes a person more on edge and more miserable. "

" cm, I don't think that the studies are inferring that violent sex crime went down "because of a DVD".
I think what they mean si that, when P0rnography was made available as an outlet--whether in DVD form, magazines, whatever--that it acted as a sort of "pressure valve" for people who found it (thankfully) more convenient or prudent to "take care of their problems" in their own homes rather than prowling the streets for satisfaction. Please--check out that link.
It says, among other things, that more another study found that more citizens in some certain town subscribed to Playboy than to Newsweek, for example.
I have read other similar studies which always concur with the same results.
The thing is, it always surprises the hell out of me too, because I have always heard that the "effects" of p0rnography were detrimental to society.
But while I agree that a individual can have their "expectations" of sexuality seriously altered if they invest too much thought into it, I can see how it can be beneficial to society as well. "

" sorry "AJ" I couldn't have been at the video store-I only visit Auburn nowadays. Most of our video stores here have a backroom with an actual door and seperate employee, so little ones can't run in, better idea than one of the 70's curtains!
--but I dont agree with the studies that violent sex crimes were down because of a video.
I havent been to a video store in about 3yrs-its easier and the same price to rent from your TV/aka brighthouse.

" For: "moved south" ?? Have you lived in another country?? Is your statement based on a true comparison? Perhaps you are just a member of that every-growing group that believes all the fecal matter that Washington lays out. Would the "greatest" country allow it's citizens to live in squallor? Would that country deceive it's citizens and sacrafice their lives for the financial benefit of a select few? Yeah MOVED SOUTH, this isn't a bad place to live BUT, "greatest" might be a misuse of the superlative. "

" I taught my kids abstinence, but also talks on birth control and diseases!
The problem is most kids dont listen, no matter how much a parent talks!
Sometimes it takes their environment to see the real world of babies!
My oldest 26 now, watch & listened to his dad suffer with courts, visitation, and child support with his other children-my son & his 5yr girlfriend said maybe in 5yrs they will have a baby. They bought a house, new cars, they travel.
My daughter nearly 21 now, was very religious-way more than her parents. Her first time was at 18, then mom took her to the doctor for birth control.
Now 2nd son,23, wants to have all his kids while young, so far a 2yr daughter and a 4month son--he struggles daily, they work fulltime yet are always broke-its not as easy as they thought!
My 9yr old says boys are gross and she plans to adopt-after watching a baby being born on TV! Plus she sees her big bro struggling with 2 kids-hopefully she wont be a worry in a few years!

Giving kids a bag of potatoes to care for is not the real world. Parents must talk,talk,talk--daily!
A baby IS a "death till you part" commitment!!

" yes AJ my sis brags about steak! After 20yrs on the system --she is a pro. She knows every inch of every program-and she makes sure she doesn't get cheated out of anything free!
I am not proud of her actions, we've had many discussions about it-but like I stated earlier-why would she get off it all when so much is handed to her?
In the real world she only wants to work part-time, doing that would not afford her a home, car, medical, food, electric, and the monies to pay for a sitter!
I have always said the system needs to be changed-right now in CA a teen R.J. Feild was born addicted to heroin, he is attempting to get a bill passed for welfare recipients to be drug tested-this is one thing every state should be doing! His story was on cbs news tonight. Its a start. "

" You know, at the risk of sounding like a pro-p0rnography advocate, check out these alarming facts--I think it's relevant to cite them to counter Mr Palesh's silly "war on P0rn" up at FV.
From http://www.humanismbyjoe.com/Censoring_Porn.htm
The 1970 Presidential Commission on Obscenity and P0rnography reports that p0rnography may provide a harmless sexual outlet for persons who might otherwise seek antisocial ones. Denmark's experience is consistent with this thesis, because sex offenses there declined following legalization of p0rnography.

Likewise in Sweden and the former West Germany, sex crimes against children went down significantly in the years after restrictions were lifted on the availability of p0rnography.

Similarly in England, the British Inquiry into Obscenity and Film Censorship couldn't find a link between sexually explicit materials and sex crimes. Instead, its report shows that sexual assaults declined during a five-year period of increasing explicitness and availability of erotica. The study also notes an increase in sex crimes following a crackdown on hardcore p0rnography.
Fascinating, isn't it?
Once again, just like the Religious Crusades to stop people from having sex with their silly "abstinence" campaigns, once again a "moral crusade" can wind up having exactly the OPPPOSITE effects from what was desired!
P.S. WHY CAN'T I STILL NOT TYPE IN THE WORD "P0RN"??? "

" Do we need a forum on here or what?

Anyway. . .

I tend to feel that pornography is generally a bad idea for people. I think it sets up unreasonable expectations about sex. This is especially true for people whose only experience (or a vast majority of it) is with pornography.
However, I am sure that when used correctly, pornography can be harmless and perhaps beneficial to some people/couples.
That said, adults are adults, and they can make their own decisions about what they would like to expose themselves to.

I am absolutely opposed to the government stepping in to tell us what we can and can't watch. "

On a secondary note--I see nothing embarrassing or stigmatizing about renting an adult video at all--unless it involves anime cartoons! What's so shameful about sexuality and sex?
Did you see that Newsweek had a story that major drug store chains like Walmart and Walgreens are now carrying female personal lubricants on the shelves right next to the shampoos and whatnot?
"Oh the times, they are a-chaaaaannnngin"! "

cm wrote on Feb 21, 2008 12:35 PM:

WAS it really a wayward object that could have crashed to earth and unloaded toxic fumes for 100 miles or was is a "test-the missle" mission to see if we really could knock out spy stuff in space??
hmmm.. "

" back to yesterday:
it's not that I dont feel for those needing the system when they need it--I was there once too BUT it was when NEEDED then get 2 jobs and support myself and child!
I agree with FG that back in the 80s the social workers were rude as can be-made you feel like a scumbag for circumstances beyond your control.
for those in NEED the system should be fast and immediate and the persons not ridiculed.
But when I watch my sis and many of those like her in the Auburn click-I feel its unjust that I bust my butt so hard to own a home, car, and to have cable! It sickens me when she visits and states "I only eat steak" and pulls out her food stamps, when at times we may be having a bad week from car repairs or unplanned doctor visits and we eat hotdogs!
Then homesite comes along and offers her half monies to BUY a house! And to top that Cars for Moms comes along and gives her a great car for 1 grand
(25.00 per month payments) and 1yr warrenty!
WHY on earth would she ever get off the system when all is handed to her??

Maybe for us (FG) we are more humble and those nasty people we didn't want to face for yearly renewal kept us awake to face our woes without living on the system! Just maybe they were trained to do just that!
Its a good week maybe I will buy some steaks! lol "
