Snowball softball is a long-standing Auburn tradition. Coordinated as a fundraiser to assist the Y-Pals programs of the Auburn YMCA, the cold-weather sport is an informal, low-key way to break free of winter's shackles.
The tournament is double elimination. The event has attracted eight teams this year. Made up of five men and five women, each team will raise $100. The teams will play on whatever condition the field has to offer.
“We've played in rain, sleet and snow, it doesn't matter,” event co-coordinator Steve Pinchak said. “This year all the snow has melted, though.”
