Tiffany Collinsworth celebrated senior night with 22 points but it wasn't enough as the Cayuga Community College women's basketball team lost to Finger Lakes Community College 69-61 on Tuesday. Collinsworth also had seven rebounds despite fouling out.
With the effort, Collinsworth jumped into fifth place all-time on the Spartans' scoring list and sixth place on the single-season scoring list.
“I couldn't have done that without my teammates.” Sophomore Tiffany Collinsworth said. “It's nice to see that they feel comfortable with me scoring.”
Corissa Quattrini finished with 16 points for Cayuga (14-2 overall, 6-6 in league). Sophomore Courtney Dare had six points, four assists and five steals and sophomore Aaliyah Muhammad finished with six points and five rebounds.
The Spartans begin playoffs Saturday. Their opponent, Broome Community College, has only one loss on the season. The Spartans have already lost to Broome twice this season.
“I just keep telling the girls it's not a matter of being the better team the whole year,” Spartans coach Jim Alberici said. “But a matter of being the better team in the 40 minutes you play them.”
Cayuga is missing a few girls, but that hasn't stopped them from running full court drills in practice.
“The lack of players has been an issue for us.” Alberici said. “We had all three coaches dress up yesterday to run five-on-five drills and also had a few girls come in and practice with us that had to leave the team for other reasons.”
