Having Murray Lynch tell you that you need a reality check is like Michael Moore telling you that you need to lose weight.
I have asked this before and still haven't found the answer. Why does The Citizen continue to wipe the spurious-intellectual drool off of Murray's chin with the op-ed page of the paper? Who is he to quiz me or anyone else about anything?
Who is he to say that success in this country is determined by wealth? Each individual has their own definition of success and yes, wealth is often a by-product of that success brought about by hard work, vision and guts. Three words that you will never see in anything written by Murray Lynch.
Who is he to say that money from the economic stimulus package will go to people who will not spend it? What does he base that gem of wisdom on? Unless the money received is being buried in Mason jars in back yards all across America, the money will be spent. Either by consumers on goods, banks maintaining savings accounts the money was deposited in or other investments where the money can grow. Anytime taxpayer dollars flow from the government back into the free market where it belongs, it is spent (and taxed) many times over.
Who is he to say that the formula for success is either to be driven or be Christ-like? The two are not mutually exclusive. Does he not think that Jesus was driven? By Murray's definition of “Christ-like” behavior, Jesus would have sat on his backside whining to the locals about the plight of the lepers or the evil of the moneychangers rather than actually doing something about it.
For me, I can't take another one of Murray's quizzes. I only know the guy from the space he takes up on the reader's page, but I have known a few people with the same mind-set who could have written his letters. Wanna-be clerics that blame everyone else for their shortcomings and perceived “wrong doings” against them, while at the same time wrapping themselves in the Shroud of Turin to deflect any criticism of their thoughts (or lack thereof) as not being “Christ-like.”
It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness. Somebody get Murray some matches.

I am not a fan of his-but sometimes he gives me a good laugh. Overall, I think he means well, in his own ways.
Just like any of us-he does have the right to write, afterall it is an opinion column. "
