BYRON - A young brother and sister are dead after the car they were riding in collided with a tractor-trailer on a rural western New York road.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Department says 48-year-old Laurie Claus, of Bergen, was driving on a straight stretch of Route 262 around 10:15 a.m. Monday when she turned into the path of tractor-trailer.

Sheriff Gary Maha says her children - 7-year-old Victoria and 11-year-old Christopher - both died in the crash, which occurred about 25 miles west of Rochester. Laurie Claus is reported in stable condition at the hospital in Batavia.
