These psychiatric medicines are not "medications" backed by medical science. When we say psychatric drugs "work," we really mean they are a chemical straight-jacket.

Mr. Camardo has a point: Why in the world would you sell Kalet's for $1 to a person that wants Auburn to look like Aurora. If he paid even $10,000 for the building, that's $9,999 more for our bank account than the other offer.

My theory is that one of the biggest causes of these shootings is all the hype that the media so shamelessly creates around such incidents. It is definitely the most culpable party in the copycat trend.

I don't know what major highways the County Legislature has been traveling on, but 5 and 20 West at the four corners has had gas at $3.11 and is now $3.14. On Routes 318 and 414, it is $3.14, in Elbridge, it is $3.11, and in Lansing, it is $3.20.

People of America, people of the world are slowly but very enjoyably discovering the newest sensational blogger, Jason Kufs, the more pragmatic son of outspoken Billy Kufs. I hope Mr. Boyer reads it.

" In regards to the upcoming city ordinance about dogs, have anyone at the city done research in to the reported dog bites for purebred dogs for the past few yrs ?. If they had, they would know that Pitbulls rank at the top or close, along with Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and many other breeds one would not expect. Dobermans dont really make the cut, not to mention there are only what 4 in the city of Auburn ??. I dont feel the need to drag up other breeds that were designed along the same means as the Dobie.

" Brew, cuckoos nest was on state street in what I remember being the family planning at one time and also a bus station. I believe it was part of what was left of some old hotel. Behind it was Luke Wms and son lumber also gone now for CCS. CN was popular in the mid to late 70's disco time and lots of drinking - it was a strange place but fun! "

" ouch karl--a friend and I were probably 2 of the seven! But kind of bad planning for your band on a spring break timeframe, when most head south for the beach fun.
We had some of the best of times at Winners circle and Cassidy's!
When I visit NY, I always want to go to someplace similiar but there is nothing like those 2 places in the Auburn.
Curly's and places like them are nice but too small.
Hey, maybe the new owner of Kalets could do a remake of both places! lol "

" I remember the 60s music scene in Auburn, playing in a band called the Lexingtons later becoming the Shades of Black. We played gigs at the SK Post (called the Purple Lancer dances) and Central and West High, Holy Family and the rollerdrome. Our big road trips took us to Seneca Falls, Weedsport and Port Byron High schools. Our bass player was a fifteen year old named Joey DeMaio. My favorites at the time were Sam Giangreco and Ronnie Garropy's band befor the Blue Lights, Mark Doyles December's Children and Joe Casbarros band. I can't remember the bands names. Someone tell more about the Cuckoos Nest. Wasn't that once Panko's? Let's here more. "

" Now see the conversations are better already. I remember those bars also and there was another - cuckoos nest? I remember your shoes stuck to the floor cuz of all the drinks that h/b spilled. I saw U2 when they released Boy at ACC and like what u experienced Karl, they found VERY low attendance like maybe maybe 100 people. It was a fantastic concert however. "

" There is a way to say things in a quick, clear, concise manner. And we don't all have all day to just post things. Just keep it simple and maybe once a day. No need to drone. And let's not be nasty and resort to name calling. It just shows your intelligence, or lack thereof. "

" Here's an interesting bit of trivia for you, cm.
In 1986/87 (?) I played at the Auburn "Winner's Circle" with an amateur band called "Arc Angel" from NE Pennsylvania.
I remember we all thought it was gonna be a "hot" night, cuz we thought that Auburn was a hopping "college town"! We all thought the place was so huge, and were expecting like, hundreds of hot college chicks showing up and the resultant debauchery that would ensue.
Scrrreeeech! WRONG! LOL!
There were about seven people there including the bartender and the spider in the corner, I think because it was during a college break, and all the kids were gone. We all went back to our hotel, miserable, and watched a massive thunder and lightning storm across the way--I think er stayed out on Rt 20 going out toward Skaneatles, in that hotel with the pool out front.
Little did I know my future would bring me here! LOL! "

See--that was easy! =) "

" Yes, Karl, I am serious and I have absolutely no resentment whatsoever to anyone that posts. I am extremely eloquent, educated, mature and am quite able to carry on a topic in depth if I so choose. Such as the family video - now there were some good posts on that story because a certain individual did not comment on every single sentence breaking them down into topics and subtopics then finishing each with a dissertation to include the meaning of the word "the". My comment was merely a statement of my feelings and I thought I expressed them as kindly as possible. On other local forums, certain individuals h/b advised that their posts create a filibuster. A tendency towards OCD or loneliness would also describe. I merely suggest that an online journal may assist in making this forum more fun again. I would like adult banter rather than mini lessons expressed one sided. "

" aubres and nature lover, STICK IT IN YOUR EARS!!!!!
Who the heck do YOU people think you are? Are you SERIOUS? YOu resent "some people" who can carry on a conversation about a topic and who are eloquent enough to discuss something in depth? What a load of HOOOEY!
My, how the singular-syllabic resent those who can speak at length!
Listen you two--you're free to post 67 times a day if you so choose to--meanwhile, if you're not part of the conversation, then BUTT OUT or better yet, contribute!
Sheesh! I never heard of such a nonsensical complaint!!!!! "

" Lately, on most days, this two cents forum has turned into one individuals online diary/journal and it has become boring and one sided. I suggest keeping a journal personally and post here briefly when u want to comment or want a topic discussed. Cuz, yes, u can get a point across mispelled and in less than a paragraph. "

Sigh....another place where young area musicians could hone their chops, going under. Man, I'd hate to be coming up in the music biz today--there's just nowhere to play. Motley Crouton is playing-I'll be there with my girlfriend--come on out and buy me a soda. "

" Right you are, Karl -- I REALLY don't trust or like the "pill for every ill" approach to health. There are times when meds are indeed needed, but I'm all for exploring other options first, esp. when it comes to treating a cause instead of masking symptoms.

I've known people who take more than 10 meds each day, and at least half were to treat the symptoms caused by the other half. I call that irresponsible doctors more than anything else.

Who benefits? Pharmeceutical companies. Who is one of Hillary Clinton's biggest campaign contributors? Pharmaceutical industry. Just a side thought.... "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Feb 18, 2008 12:56 PM:

" As for meds, I think it depends on the individual.

The whole idea of drug-based treatments for chemical imbalances is still in its infancy -- there are a lot of variables, and we (including doctors) aren't even close to understanding them all.

Some meds do the trick for one person, but make another person worse. I've known people who were just never right again after taking some of these meds. One my dad took made him paranoid, even though it helped his attention problem. Another one just took the life out of him, made him flat, just not right -- not dangerous, but like his whole self was no longer present.

Then there are anti-depressants which, ironically, can CAUSE depression and suicidal behavior in teens -- how does THAT work? But it happens.

Other meds make some people think they are fine and don't really need the meds, so they go off the meds and next thing you know, they are off their rockers.

And I've known quite a few people who have side-effects from meds which were worse than what they were trying to treat in the first place.

We just don't have a complete enough understanding of the endocrine system in the human body and all its variations from individual to individual.

Personally, I'd like to see more treatment at the source -- like getting the hormone-mimicking chemicals out of our environment instead of letting industry just keep spewing the stuff out into our air, water and soil. To me it is no wonder we have such high instances of cancer, respiratory problems, sleep disorders, attention deficiencies and mental illnesses. "

" $3.21 in Lansing -- I drive by Rogue's Harbor every day. Now, which 4 corners of 5 & 20 has it for $3.11? Even $3.14 would make it worth altering my route into Auburn slightly to get gas there.... "

karl L wrote on Feb 18, 2008 12:29 PM:

" I say that people are taking WAAAAAAY too many drugs, period. Everything has a pill these days--last year the drug companies spent more money on MARKETING drugs than they actually did on Research and Dev elopement!
They WANT you to be drugged up! They WANT you to think that a drug can cure anything--and look at how many of these pills are later discovered to have WORSE side effects than the actual maladies themselves!
STOP taking drugs, people! Investigate homeopathy, and best of all, HEALTHY LIVING AND PREVENTION!!!! "
