2007 Harvard study shows benefits of casinos

Concerning Harvard University 2007 study on casino gambling: It is a nationwide disaster waiting to happen.
The proof has been stated by Harvard economist Prof. John W. Kindt and was presented to the International Business Conference on Feb. 10-11, 2007. It was sponsored by Harvard Business School, Harvard Law School and the Kennedy School of Government and also presented to appropriate members of Congress.

This report should be sent to Congressman Arcuri, Gov. Spitzer, Senator Clinton and others to present this latest knowledge to them and so they can correct present mistakes, such as governor spokesman for Spitzer, Mr. Rifkin, who stated that the two counties (Seneca and Cayuga) demands will be ignored as only two counties of the state, but is not only countywide, but covers the entire state and federal economy.

Prof. Kindt says that economics cannot gamble their ways to prosperity. Gambling economics transfers consumer wealth, destroy our productivity. This casino money could have purchased cars, provided for college education and maybe reduced our present house mortgages disaster. It would prevent tribal sovereignty for superseding federal and state laws.

He recommended by president executive order and other means, the following: (briefed here)

# € To return to 1985 restrictive policies.

€ Eliminate the $40 billion ESA write-off to casino facilities.#

€ Impose a moratorium on all new tribal gambling facilities.#

€ Eliminate unlimited tribal political contributions.#

€ Ask Congress to enact Rep. Charles Dent's bill, H.R. 3441.

The above was from the paper, “Hawaii Reporter' and the complete report is available in the paper archives.
