Dennis Walawender's editorial in Sunday's paper (Feb. 10, 2008) is right on the money. I moved to Fleming five years ago and my taxes have gone up 37 percent! If it continues to rise I can't imagine what the taxes will be in another five years.
Mr. Walawender has done his homework and he is definitely on target. Now for the rest of us. Are you gonna just sit here and let the Town of Fleming continue to increase your taxes on the chosen few?
And for those of you in the town of Fleming who want to know what your neighbor is paying for taxes, just go to:
www.co.cayuga.ny.us/realproperty and click on 2007 Final Assessment rolls, then click on Fleming. It is here you can find everybody's assessment in Fleming.
If Maxwell Appraisal Services determined there were many inaccuracies and missing data from the tax rolls, who's to blame for that? How long has this information been missing? Why wasn't it entered in the first place? Why hasn't it been corrected?
If Maxwell Appraisal services said that it would be fair to do a re-evaluation of all parcels, then why won't the town board do that? The money from all the under-assessed properties would more than pay for their services.
Somebody didn't do their job for many years to let this happen for so long. If properties were assessed fairly, no one would have to file a grievance, fill out paperwork, go in front of the board and fight to have your assessment lowered.
