Congrats to Fleming for standing up for the lake

Saturday, February 16, 2008 11:34 PM EST

Congratulations to the Fleming Town Board for having the courage and backbone to stand up against development in the Owasco Lake Watershed. If you have been swimming in the lake in the last two years and smelled the foul odor of the water, or felt the scum on your skin, you should realize that the lake is sick!
When most of the politicians were running for office last fall, “we must save the lake” was the slogan that I heard most often. Possibly we could have an election every six months if that is what it takes to keep the lake's deteriorated condition in the public's eye.

We have had enough studies and monitoring of the lake. It is time to take action! Could the other town boards with property that boarders the lake take action similar to Fleming? They could carry the moratorium a little further and not make it three months, but until the lake is Healthy.

" The studies and monitoring keep activists busy so no one actually ever gets around to doing anything about all the pollution going into our lakes, hadn't you noticed? This is why the regulatory system is a sham. The only thing the regulatory system regulates is the activities of activists, while corporations, including corporate agribusiness in this area, just go on destroying our natural resources with impunity.
