    Congratulations to the Fleming Town Board for having the courage and backbone to stand up against development in the Owasco Lake Watershed. If you have been swimming in the lake in the last two years and smelled the foul odor of the water, or felt the scum on your skin, you should realize that the lake is sick!

    Dennis Walawender's editorial in Sunday's paper (Feb. 10, 2008) is right on the money. I moved to Fleming five years ago and my taxes have gone up 37 percent! If it continues to rise I can't imagine what the taxes will be in another five years.

    Contrary to a much publicized announcement last May, Hollywood#'s rating system fails to warn parents that most movies feature smoking. Young audiences around the world are still being bombarded with billions of tobacco impressions every time an actor lights up. This isn#,t a matter of personal taste or censorship. It#,s a major public health challenge. The tobacco industry rakes in $4 billion in lifetime sales through Hollywood movies that recruit kids to smoke every year.
