CORTLAND - The Lansing boys basketball team held off a fourth-quarter rally to defeat Union Springs 53-42 for the overall IAC Championship Saturday night at SUNY Cortland.
The Bobcats outscored the Wolves in every quarter, but clung to a 39-36 lead with five minutes left. However, Union Springs was met with the same obstacle that has led Lansing to an 18-1 record this season -- all-star Teagan Barresi. The senior standout had six points and one assist in the fourth, driving the gaps for 23 points in the win.

Lansing was able to pull away with about two minutes left, as Barresi found Brian Milliman to give the Bobcats a 47-38 advantage, and sank their free throws to preserve the win. Though Union Springs put up a fight it was the inability to get its guards on the board early that put it in a 26-18 hole at halftime. Forwards Julius McClary and Devon Brady had combined for 16 of the Wolves' 18 points, and would finish with 18 and 12, respectively. Union Springs could never quite get its other players involved, and Lansing extended its lead to double-digits several times during the contest.

The Wolves, whose only three losses are to the Bobcats, are ranked eighth in this week's Class C poll and begin Section IV play on Friday. Union Springs, the No. 1 seed, will face the winner of Tuesday's game between No. 8 Moravia and No. 9 Tioga.
