Our View: Hits & Misses

HIT: To the people who worked behind the scenes to make the Valentine's Day holiday special for so many others.
Florists were busy making arrangements, and drivers were all over the area delivering. Staff at area restaurants were giving their all on one of the year's more hectic nights. And plenty of retailers handled a rush of last-minute gift buyers, we're sure.

It's important to thank people who keep the world turning on days like these.

MISS: To a pair of separate incidents in which men in their mid 20s are accused of having sexual relations with teenage girls. Both men were charged earlier this week.

This comes after Auburn police investigated six sex offenses in the month of January.

Adults need to think about the implications of their actions, and prosecutors need to hold them accountable when their actions tear families apart.

HIT: To local snow plow crews across Cayuga County. The hard-working crews were out in full force on Tuesday and Wednesday, making sure local roads were cleaned and passable.

The fact there weren't any serious motor vehicle accidents reported in that timespan is a testament to their fine work.

HIT: To a panel that was recently held at the Auburn Public Theater on the impact of hip hop and rap music. The discussion came after a viewing of a movie that explores the music and the message it conveys.

Local academians talked about the message the music sends to young people.

Rap and hip hop have been a serious form of music for more than 20 years and an honest rapport to determine its influence is welcome.

MISS: To low supplies of blood in the area. If you are a regular blood donor, you understand the need for blood. If you have never donated, this is the time to help out.

Contact the Red Cross at (800) 448-3543 to find out how.
