Republicans not giving enough to social programs

Friday, February 15, 2008 11:53 AM EST

I for one am sick of hearing the Republicans complaining about social programs; they say it costs too much.
If they truly want to save the taxpayers money, they should repeal the Republican programs that provide welfare for the wealthy. There are Republican programs that give hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars to multinational corporations.

When the neo-conservatives controlled Congress, in one day they voted to give almost a quarter billion dollars as a bonus to a defense contractor.

" I think it would have helped the point of the letter for the writer to be specific about what programs he's referring to, and which "multinational corporations" the "republicans" are giving hundreds of millions of dollars to, and for what.

This letter just seems like a blanket, broad-brush-painted picture without any specific examples, it just sounds like the writer repeating something he heard someone else say, or like what you'd hear a kid say who's mad at a group of other kids who won't play with him on the playground, "those neo-cons think they're so cool, but you know what, they're really not". What's the point of complaining if you can't provide specific examples? "

" The billionaire and wannabe billionaire crybabies irritate me to no end. These people are really sick. They are the first ones feeding at the trough, and never want to give anything back. It's sociopathic really.

The Republican party never had any soul, and never will.

I won't excuse this current session controlled by the Democrats though either - they have given George everything he has asked for in terms the "defense" (laughable) budget. How many of them have also been bought off by the war machine?

Right on Ronnie!! "

" Curious juxtaposition of this letter with the one a few below it complaining of how the Republicans have let our debt climb so high. Republicans are always on about how social programs just get us into debt -- how ironic is that!

No, it just means they are not spending our money on our own people, but wasting it elsewhere -- certainly doesn't make it better spent, not in my books.... "

" Over the past seven years I've watched the conservative wing of the Republican Party lose its soul. When I was growing up this country was the most generous (OK, occasionally self serving) in the world. Over the past seven years everything has been about accumulating personal wealth and influence. I'm hoping in January the pendulum begins its forward (that's left for those of you who need the help) swing.

I expect Chris will have some kind words for me too Karl. "
