NY lawmaker drops licensing from antique gun regulation plan

ALBANY -- A New York lawmaker is dropping a plan that would have required museums, historical societies and living history re-enactors to obtain licenses to own antique guns and muzzleloading weapons.
Democratic Assemblyman Michael Gianaris of Queens says he decided to drop the licensing provision after hearing concerns from museums and re-enactment groups that such a requirement could have crippling economic consequences.

Gianaris' new plan still requires purchasers of antique firearms to undergo a background check the same as they would for handguns. But his new proposal includes an exemption for museums, historical societies, historic sites, and groups conducting re-enactment, living history, educational or interpretive events.

" Gianaris needs to drop the entire plan altogether. His whole thing is based on the fact that a deputy got shot by a man with a muzzleloader.

Why doesn't Gianaris just make shooting deputies illegal?

Oh wait, criminals don't follow laws.

Sorry, folks, this is a stupid idea by an even more stupid politician. Gianaris is literally attempting to legislate the ownership of a close-ended pipe set in a block of wood.

What's next?

Are people going to wake up before they find themselves filling out background check paperwork at Wal*Mart to buy little Johnny his first baseball bat? "

" Even with that provision dropped, it's still a STUPID plan. Here it is folks, a shining example of our rights being taken away a little at a time. Sickening. "
