HIT: To the moving tribute held Sunday for members of the 222nd Military Police Company at Auburn High School.
The event was another way for the community to say thanks to the men and women who made so many sacrifices while serving in Iraq. The Auburn-based National Guard returned from service in late October to find streets lined with yellow ribbons and cheers of family members and friends filling their armory. It's nice to see the support is still there a few months later.
Regardless of how one feels about the war, it's important to show appreciation for these individuals.
MISS: To the nasty winter weather of the past couple of days.
From the bone-chilling winds that whipped the region most of Sunday and Monday, to the lake effect snow machine that once again fired up off the shore of Lake Ontario, there was little chance of enjoying the great outdoors.
Of course, this is bound to happen a few times every winter in central New York.
HIT: To the annual student art exhibit at Wells College, which is again on display at the Aurora school.
This exhibit is an example of how higher education institutions enhance a community. Thanks to Wells, local residents get a chance to take in the work of some talented artists. And hopefully, a few of them decide to stay and develop their career right here in Cayuga County.
If you get a chance, stop by the String Room Gallery in the main building at Wells. The exhibit runs through March 7.
HIT: To the high school sports postseason, which for the most part, gets started this week.
Name just about any sport, and there's a local team or athlete with a great chance to do well, based on their regular season performances. Area sports fans are excited to see how it will all play out.
