The National Weather Service's winter storm warning remains in effect for the region, with the first snow expected in the region after 3 p.m. Tuesday.
In the northern half of the county, the warning runs through 9 p.m. Wednesday. In the southern half, it goes through 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Forecasters say the storm will dump one to two inches by late afternoon, before picking up intensity in the evening. Snowfall rates at that point could be 0.5 to 1 inch per hour.
After midnight, the snow will change to sleet and freezing rain.
At this point, total snow accumulations are forecast between 5 and 10 inches, with up to a quarter inch of ice.
"A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring," the NWS statement said. "This will make travel very hazardous or impossible."
